Follow up:

While troubleshooting this issue I've noticed that this behaviour seems to only occur with m4a files, WAVs and AAFs behave normally....

so maybe this i a bug afterall?

I've just upgraded to 2021.12 and I've noticed that when I go to audition audio files in the Workspace, they are playing back from the beginning of the file even when I select somewhere...

From a folder in the finder or from the clips bin it seems to work as I would expect.

That said, I was hoping to find a fix for the problem and not a work around....
