Re: Anyone tried Protools on an M1 mac yet?

I think this will change drastically when Avid & plug-in makers make M1 compatible versions (by sometime in the year 2053). Even running through Rosetta emulation apps perform better on my M1 MBP...

Re: Anyone tried Protools on an M1 mac yet?

I would recommend to get the 16gb instead of 8gb if you can. I have run into occasional slowdowns if I have a complicated Final Cut Pro timeline rendering while having a lot of other apps open...

Re: Anyone tried Protools on an M1 mac yet?

Nah, my M1 MBP works way better than the 2020 Intel one I had for serious use, even with 8gb.

Re: Anyone tried Protools on an M1 mac yet?

I imagine native Universal versions would run better. I also imagine it won't be long before there's the option to have >16gb.

Re: Same old question: Can I run 2020?

I have a 5,1 Mac Pro running Mojave . . . Just moved to 2020.12 from 2019.something and it runs ok but I've been getting a few more -9173 errors than I was. It also seems to hang a long time when...

Re: Anyone tried Protools on an M1 mac yet?

You're probably right, but I'm done giving Avid money. The Macbook Pro isn't my main audio computer anyway, I was just experimenting.

Re: Anyone tried Protools on an M1 mac yet?

No noticeable heat and the fan stayed completely silent.

Re: Anyone tried Protools on an M1 mac yet?

ok, did some more testing.
Macbook Pro M1 8gb ram, Big Sur 11.1; PT Vanilla 2020.11 running through Rosetta 2
44.1, 24-bit session; buffer 256 samples

Started with 8 stereo audio tracks with...

Re: Anyone tried Protools on an M1 mac yet?

I did not do any recording, only playback. I imported 8 stereo stems and duplicated. Plugins as listed. Buffer size was set to 32!

Re: Anyone tried Protools on an M1 mac yet?

I guess I should say I didn't test recording with it at all. But based on the overall performance I'd be surprised if it struggled with it.

Re: Anyone tried Protools on an M1 mac yet?

The feel was absolutely smooth and, dare I say, snappy. I didn't look at the swap amounts but the memory pressure stayed well within the green zone. I don't see where basic recording and mixing would...

Re: Anyone tried Protools on an M1 mac yet?

I just got an M1 MBP (8gb ram, running Big Sur 11.1) and installed and opened up 2020.11 and started throwing stuff at it. I only had the stock plugs to work with. Started with 16 stereo tracks and...

Re: So, no renewal. We stay at 2020.

I've used PT for 20 years now, and while I still think it's the best program for editing and mixing, the deterioration of the return-on-investment for the renewal prices is pretty obvious when you...

Re: So, no renewal. We stay at 2020.

Maybe I'm too cynical, but it seems to me like yet another example of corporate capitalism's inevitable prioritization of profit over customer experience. It's happened with so many companies....

Re: So, no renewal. We stay at 2020.

It's very unlikely that any Pro Tools accident could result in major property damage, grievous bodily harm, or death. So that's not a super apt analogy.

Re: Dual Screen Issues

Glad it worked for you. It took me a while to figure it out. I have no idea why it's necessary!

Re: Dual Screen Issues

I have this issue unless I option-click full screen to max out the mixer window size (not full screen) after I've dragged the mixer to my second monitor. If I just drag it and place it without...

Re: 2020.9!

Not having to boot into my OS10.7 drive and PT 10 just to convert old SD2 files is exciting (and also dumb that it took this long to implement).

Re: new standard update plan cost?

You're not crazy, just out of the loop.

They doubled the prices for renewal as part of their effort to get everyone to switch over to subscriptions.

Re: Mac Pro 5.1 Mojave - what GPU cards work?

I put in a flashed AMD Radeon 7950 3BG and yes I have boot screen. It's occasionally a little quirky (left-open windows sometimes come back in different places when I boot up), but nothing major at...

Re: Mac Pro 5.1 Mojave - what GPU cards work?

I also have a 4,1->5,1 (single X5690) and was experiencing that same lag on High Sierra. Since upgrading GPU and installing Mojave I haven't had any problem.

Re: 2012 Mac Pro Cheese Grater - PT 2019.6 and Mojave Recommeded GPU

I'm also using a flashed 3GB 7950 (4,1->5,1 Mac Pro with two old-school 20" Cinema Displays) and have had no problems with PT 2019.6/Mojave . . . If you don't count -9173 errors, that is.

Re: Mac Pro 5.1 Mojave - what GPU cards work?

I'm using a flashed Radeon 7950 in my MP 4.1->5.1 (6-core 3.46), running two 20" Cinema Displays, with Mojave 10.14.5 and PT 2019.5. I still get boot screen and other than app/finder windows...

Re: 9173 error still/trash can, 35%cpu or less?

Thank you for doing all this testing. I have the same 9173 situation as you (happens just once usually in the first 10 minutes of opening), although sometimes it's 6101 instead of 9173. I also have...

Re: Can't save files AAE error 35 occurred. What is it?

I agree, I have had this problem when there is a permissions issue, although I can't remember if I got the 35 error or a different one.
