002 rack as stand-alone Preamp

Can you use the 002 rack as a standalone preamp like the 002? If so, then can you still monitor the signal through the headphone output when in standalone?

I am trying to put together a small home...

I have two questions;

1) I have a bit of noise coming out of my Mbox. I have nothing when merely monitoring a signal if ProTools is not open, but once I do open ProTools, there is a slight hum...
