I've never trusted Windows Media Player to burn audio CDs. Try re-burning using a decent open-source burning tool.

This is probably just a Thunderbolt to Firewire/USB2 interface, so it won't take advantage of Thunderbolt speed. A true Thunderbolt device will use full PCI-e bandwidth.
