Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

I'd be worried about the mechanical stresses placed on the cpu & heatsink assembly connection to the motherboard when in that position long...

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

One of the questions is is the extra heat being generated beyond what the Mac's cooling system can handle? I understand there's extra heat but is it all that much to be worried about? I get the fans...

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

I don't understand your statement of "And you are defeating that shroud as a heatshink design, not a good idea at all." - please explain. And what is this 'small fan in a shroud in a pcie slot' you...

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

I thought these things (the blades) needed a heatsink? If so could you post a pic or two of it and how it looks inside the Mac's card cage?

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

I don't sit with a stopwatch either but can do a pretty good timing on my count (I am a drummer after all). I'm just saying that your times aren't any different than what I'm seeing in my system...

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

That's about the times I get on my 2012 cheesegrater running a Samsung 850 EVO 1 TB in slot 3 on an OWC pcie adapter card to boot into Sierra.

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

All these upgrades has me wondering - can the power supply handle the load? I don't know how much Apple overdesigns their supplies. For that matter how about cooling? I don't have a machine room to...
