Re: SATA vs IDE drives with PT 7.4

I finally had time to test AHCI mode and it completely solved the problem. CPU usage is rock solid while running demanding sessions off the SATA drives. The IDE drives are still active in the...

Re: SATA vs IDE drives with PT 7.4

Yeah, my thinking with external PCI SATA card is that it would be a comletely different SATA chipset, hopefully one that people have had clear success with. As far as the Motherboard is concerned,...

Re: SATA vs IDE drives with PT 7.4

I have tried the jumper in both 1.5gb and 3gb position. Same results in both positions. I will try ACHI today to see if it makes a difference. I am starting to think it is just a crappy SATA...

Re: SATA vs IDE drives with PT 7.4

The SATA ports are on the motherboard. And yes, the SATA ports are enabled and write caching and DMA are both enabled.

One thing I noticed in the BIOS settings is that SATA interface can be set...

Re: \"Write Caching\" critical for Protools 7.x

fyi, I am still having some trouble with this. The write caching improved the issue dramatically, but I am still having trouble. CPU usage still spikes every 2-3 seconds (its just better after...

SATA vs IDE drives with PT 7.4

I have a fairly new system set up:
Athlon x2 6000+
4GB RAM

I had been using PATA (IDE) drives until recently. I upgraded to 2 Seagate 250GB SATA for my ProTools storage.

So my system now...

\"Write Caching\" critical for Protools 7.x

Just wanted to share this with everyone since I pulled my hair out for a couple days until I figured it out...

Thanks guys. I shall start shopping. I also found a company called Izotope that makes an RTAS distortion plugin last night. Haven't tried it yet though.

Re: best mics for rock guitars

I have tried the SM57/D112 combo already and found that although the D112 extends the low end, it also adds a good deal of muddiness. I guess I am looking to go the other way.

What do the Rode...

best mics for rock guitars

Hello, I have been recording guitars for some time now using either an SM57, an SM58, or an Sen 421. Out of the 3 the 421 has given the best sound, but even doubling/tripling guitar tracks doesn't...

Re: How Bigs-a-Gig

Here's an easy formula to figure out roughly what you are looking at:

Constants to remember:
1 minute of mono 24 bit audio = 7,938,000 BYTES
1 GB = 1024 MB = 1048576 KB = 1,073,741,824 BYTES

Re: AKG 451 vs Oktava MK012

Ok, so the octavas sound like they are pretty solid mics. Are the as good as AKG 451s? what about KM184s? What do you guys think?
