Split the ref audio. MXF audio isn't supported yet, and now QuickTime support has gone so Pro Tools can't import the audio ref tracks either. Definitely avoid H.264!

I think what is more likely is Avid will eventually give up on the 32 IO limit. They already have with the Dolby Audio Bridge. I think they just don't want to annoy HDX users, and finally admit HDX...

Sadly given that HDX cards were underpowered 10 years ago, it's not all that crazy. What is crazy is that Avid won't let native go beyond 32 IO and they still flog the deadhorse that is HDX.

As Frank said, great advice. Lose those ancient and inefficient CODECs. ProRes Proxy or DNxHD36/DNxHR LB are the way to go.

It seems Alan Sallabank is doing exactly this. Recording the Atmos master in the renderer but sending the re-renders and 5.1 for loundess measuring back to Pro Tools.

ProRes isn't an Avid CODEC, so that wouldn't work. As far as I know you'd need 3rd party software to encode to ProRes on Windows.
