after a re-install of my software (with which I lost some plug ins - argghh!) the 24 Bit mixer works perfectly fine - and yes from what I gather it sounds alot better than the 16 Bit Mixer.

damn, you are right. Destructive Record Mode can not handle the disk allocation properly it seems. I switched to normal mode and - voila!- it works. Thanks for the tip, man!
