Re: Daisychaining Firewire and TB3

Please just stop. Take a breath and just use the computer as is. You are clearly confused about stuff. Focus on working out how to back up the computer and just use it in Mojave for now. Worry about...

Re: Daisychaining Firewire and TB3

What about it? We’ve already said the easiest way to get Mojave on the external drive (clone what you have now with Carbon Copy Cloner). Why do you want to do a fresh reinstall when you can just...

Re: Daisychaining Firewire and TB3

James there is too much confusion showing here. Get your Mac and just use it. Work out how to make backups using carbon copy cloner so you don’t lose stuff. If you need to stay on Mojave just do not...

Re: Daisychaining Firewire and TB3

Uh why would you upgrade to Catalina if you did not want or need to?

If you have the disk space you can install both Mojave and Catalina on the internal drive.

If you do not *need* two...

Re: Daisychaining Firewire and TB3

The X5 SSD internally is an PCIe 3 x 4 lane interface that uses NVMe, connects via Thunderbolt 3 (which basically directly gives you remote PCIe 3 x 4 lane). Any modern iMac internal SSD is also a...

Re: Eleven rack shuts off after few mins

Exact same comment as before applies. If you know somebody who understands stuff enough to fix it they can just fix it. Just get it to them. They will need to know how to diagnose basic power supply...

Re: Upgrade to SSD drive with PT 10?

You can run Pro Tools on a Core 2 Duo, you can run it on a wet noodle if you want. But it all depends on what you want to do. A Core 2 Duo is well below the recommended current CPUs and you just will...

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

And the next question is what plugins... this is likely very plugin dependent... but the good point here from this is *try* disabling hyperthreading if you are seeing CPU errors. (And please share as...

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

Guys be very careful of going around in circles.

Disabling hyper-threading on a Mac was an important tool to use at times, but mostly before Pro Tools 2019.x with its much improved threading...

Re: Upgrade to SSD drive with PT 10?

There is no such thing as a disk running too fast.

Opening up an iMac and installing anything can be a challenge. Look carefully at online upgrade guides and tear down instructions for this exact...

You have a subscription to what exactly? Pro Tools...

Re: How do I download original OS 10.14.0 Installer

Which part are you asking about? The first part you downward and save a copy of the macOS installer from the App Store. Great stuff to keep stored on a file server.

Re: How do I download original OS 10.14.0 Installer

A better thing to do would be to search on DUC (use google search with site:duc.avid.com qualifier) and see if people are running on 10.14.6 OK or not. You don't even need to waste time posting and...

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

It's more complex that that. There is no simple "safe temperature" cell failure and and other bad things happen as temperature increase and the behavior of thermal throttling has a lot of hysteresis...

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

But the fact is you cannot feel the temps of the M.2 drives involved, they are hidden behind a shroud...and they sure hit issues before being too hot to touch, including performance throttling and...

Re: Cloud Plan has lapsed?

Very good advice. I cannot understand why people value their own time and work so little to put up with the Avid cloud mess. Upgrade to Pro Tools standard, or use another DAW. You time is worth much...

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

*No*

I would worry about it. Especially since it is almost no effort. What a Mac Trashcan has inside it, with a very carefully designed airflow to cool its SSD has *nothing* to do with the...

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

Mac System report, drive/firmware version should be listed under NVMExpress. But AFAIK there is no 970 Evo Firmware updates... there is the critical update for the 970 Evo Plus....

And a Quad interface drive does not provide protocol conversions between any of...

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

Not sure if there is a x8 PCIe lane single M/2 adapter card, by the time somebody uses a PCIe Switch on the card...

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave
