There is a 7.1.1 update to Pro Tools 7 that you must download from the Digidesign site. That should cure your problem. Also know that if you're using Reason, you'll need to download the latest...

I have been able to use the core audio driver for Pro-Tools, Garageband, and iTunes... I don't recall doing anything special besides selecting it from the list of audio options. Sorry I can't be of...
