Re: Low disc space on boot drive mystery

Safety Net is a problem I don't have to face right now - my backup drives are 6 times the size of what they're backing up. But you're right - it's something I should pay more attention to.

The...

Re: Low disc space on boot drive mystery - solved

I turned off snapshots and deleted all the existing ones on the boot drive.

Free space jumped from 35GB to 243GB...!

and Pro Tools seems a little snappier now, although that may be my...

Re: Low disc space on boot drive mystery

Chuck - thank you. I'm looking at CCC right now and seeing the snapshots it's created. And I can see options to adjust how it manages snapshots.

I had never paid any attention to this section...

Re: Low disc space on boot drive mystery

Chuck,

Good idea... having discovered the relevant commands I asked tmutil to thin my snapshots by 20GB and - gosh - 20GB of space appeared on the boot drive.

Whether this is the answer to my...

Re: Low disc space on boot drive mystery

I tend to leave my machines on 24/7 and re-boot only occasionally. Actually, Ben, I did reboot a couple of times yesterday hoping to regain some space but no luck.

Darryl, thanks for your...

Re: Low disc space on boot drive mystery

Space is still slowly draining away without my using the machine. Looking at the Finder view of the two machines (see attached), I know there's some stuff I can't see but on the macbook the "stuff I...

Re: Low disc space on boot drive mystery

I've explicitly emptied the trash and do so on a regular basis.

While I was writing my original post I did a screenshot of the drive's Get Info. Since then, the machine has been sitting idle with...

Low disc space on boot drive mystery

My Mac Po 6,1 was purchased used and my first action was to clone my existing Macbook Pro onto it - so on day one the two machines were essentially identical.

Since then, I haven't installed much...

Re: Not you again, Mr. -9173

...and speaking as the OP, thanks to all from me as well. The DUC is an extraordinary place.

Mind you, I didn't really start this thread looking for help. I was just having a rant and 'sharing...

Re: Not you again, Mr. -9173

No, I never found the solution for what was happening. After a frustrating day and a half of constant re-booting and teeth-grinding it stopped happening and I finished the work in double-quick time...

Re: Reboot issue affecting Apple Mac Pro

Good to meet another die-hard! I refuse to use Chrome or Firefox, or anyone else's version of Mail.

Re: Serious ProTools/MacPro threat looming?

I have no idea if my experience is anything to do with this but... after my system suddenly stopped randomly falling over with 9173s the other day and went back to working normally I decided to shut...

Re: Not you again, Mr. -9173

I don't do Time Machine. I do use Carbon Copy Cloner, which is set to back up everything everywhere every night after I've gone to bed. I use CCC's 'safety net' feature to protect me against...

Re: Not you again, Mr. -9173

It's the native system on the 6,1 machine. Sessions do get moved between the two but only in one direction - they're recorded on the studio system and then transferred to the other one at some point...

Re: Not you again, Mr. -9173

Not for ages, Janne. That's kind of the point here. If I had updated anything I'd feel there was a reason for it to behave differently.

Not you again, Mr. -9173

This is maddening. Without changing a single thing about my system - no new plugins, no software updates, nothing new installed and nothing else running on the machine - I'm suddenly having -9173...

Re: Pro Tools, HUI, and Command 8

Maybe. But I prefer the system we have. Yesterday I had a seven-piece jazz outfit doing whole band drop-ins and this isn't unusual for me. We're not working to click so I roll back 6 or 8 bars,...

Re: Pro Tools, HUI, and Command 8

We have large red lights over the door to the live room, both outside in the corridor - so people don't blunder in or start making loud noises during a take - and on the inside, visible throughout...

Re: Pro Tools, HUI, and Command 8

I see, Janne. What a nuisance. I'll have to see if there's another brand of gadget to run the red light which doesn't need HUI protocol.

I must say I have wondered for years why there isn't...

Pro Tools, HUI, and Command 8

The other day I took my Command 8 into the studio and connected it to the HDX system hoping my colleague could use it to work the cue feeds using flip mode.

But we have a gadget attached to the...

Re: Command|8 - I like it!

Well it's all about looks, really... it looks much more snazzy with 'proper' fader caps.

No seriously - I found that the lozenge shaped caps were less precise in that my finger could sort of move...

Re: Fader Resolution Problem w/ Presonus Faderport - PT 2019

I can't reliably get +/- 0.1 either way but in my case it appears to be more to do with the advanced age of the hardware. Individual faders work better or worse than each other or better in some...

Re: Fader Resolution Problem w/ Presonus Faderport - PT 2019

I just did some tests with my Command 8 to see what was the smallest 'wave' I could repeatably make, and got to +/- 0.2dB, with a really steady hand... I realise this is a very different piece of...

Command|8 - I like it!

I bought a Command 8 cheap with a bad power supply but found it still didn't work even with a new psu - so I solved the problem by buying (yet) another one...

Which is working beautifully. Given...
