This is great, Ben, so simple. Thanks for that idea. It doesn't work for punching in though. Maybe there's some clever workaround for that too.

Problem solved, though I have no idea how! Strange bug perhaps. Moderator please delete this thread to avoid confusion. I can't see a way to delete it myself

When attempting to import 114 tracks to a new session I get the error: "not all clips could be imported because you've reached the maximum number of audio tracks available for the current pro tools...

Thank you, this answers my question. I'm only concerned about the plugins. I must have been confused about the rest of it. I just need to use those plugs in all my PT9 sessions after the upgrade.

Check out the Aard Sync. You won't regret it - very noticable difference. The point is not external clock, rather low-jitter clock. If you use your DAT mackine the result could be similar or worse.
