2020.5 is qualified for 10.15.3 not dot-two so that might be your problem. Hard to say. I myself am running 10.15.5 and 2020.5 behaves nicely

Have you tried reseating your digilink cables? They may get loose over time. Or to be more specific, the metal connectors oxidize and therefore start to conduct worse. Little wiggling may clean them...

I wouldn't worry about the so called heat issues. Have been running NVMe for years already and never installed the recommended heat sink.

If the previous bottleneck was insuffucient CPU power using CPU hungry plugin, then simply upgrading CPU would do the trick. If 32 GB memory is enough, upgrading it to a terabyte will do nothing.

Only difference is you can have nested folders (folder inside a folder) so if you are a real heavy user that should make things a lot easier and logical.
