Yes, I'm still going to get a Firewire External HDD because I've lost too many songs to crashing PC's and unreliable memory cards. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread.

I'm sorry for my typos. I meant buying an external Firewire HDD won't fix my hiss with my Emachines and replacing parts on my PC will waster time and like the other guy said, its better to work on...

I'm sorry but I'm using an Mbox 2 with USB connection. Yes Emachines are cheap but that was the only PC available at the time and Dave you are correct, its a hiss not a hum.

I have a whine as well but I usually warm my equipment and up the whine goes down after about 10 minutes. Most likely you or "we" have grounding issues.
