At the top of the edit window to the right of the main counter. The area where you enter grid and nudge values. There is a box aground grid. Click it to light it up. That will enable the grid lines.

So, similar behavior with sonomic eh? Interesting. I think you hit it on the head about PT not able to hande a sound being imported if it's name doesn't jive with the search.
