Re: Ex MC Control/Artist Control users and now AVID Dock User. Questions

I like the dock too,
The fader is very responsive and solid and the big wheel in the centre can be used for a lot of cool scrolling functions and raising and lowering clip gain.
The sofkeys can...

Re: Delivering a feature to NBC Universal +12dB & +20dB

It would be interesting to know where all this is coming from.
It goes totally against ATSC and EBU guidelines for broadcast.

I thought we finally had a standard to mix to that worked and now...

Re: Limited Range Deliverables?

Ahoy there!
If anyone is interested in this ongoing saga?;)
The company agreed to go with a standard R128 mix.
So the moral is as Leverson said:

Re: MTRX Studio i/o

I ended up getting an RME ADI 4 second hand to loop the Trinnov through the Adat ports on the MTRX Studio.

I'm currently using the converters and monitoring on the Trinnov rather than the MTRX...

Re: What do people do when they have run out of location markers?

You can alt click on them to delete them, but maybe you knew that?

Empty clip groups as markers is the other work around.

Re: What do people do when they have run out of location markers?

I use the Soundflow app that lets you pull sets of them in and out of a session. You can have a set for scene boundaries etc etc.
Or I think there's a free app that will do the same thing, maybe...

Re: Lock Avid Control on Channels Pan page. No Dock

That pesky enlarge pan window button is very small and fiddley for my sausage fingers too.:-)

Re: Limited Range Deliverables?

I see what you're saying. I would still have to do 2 different flavours of stereo mixes though and potentially M&E's to match.
I'll keep my fingers crossed they go for the R128.

I totally agree,...

Re: Limited Range Deliverables?

Thanks Leverson, that's really useful info and good to know.
I am chasing it up so I'll see if it can be replaced by an R128 mix, as I'm already making one of those for one of the sets of...

Re: Using a computer monitor for video?

Catchin Sync works fine.
I also have an old syncheck and the results are the same.
I don't use the Syncheck any more much, easier to have the app on your phone.

Re: Limited Range Deliverables?

Thanks guys.
I'm lucky, I have Producers that trust my judgement on these things and will challenge the sometimes crazy demands for Deliverables, like every item continuous and in reels and in 3...

Re: Limited Range Deliverables?

Ha ha, so true!
I have chased it up so perhaps sanity will prevail.
I don't want to have to do a -1db limited R128 and this version too, seems crazy.
Also weird that they don't specify an LUFS...

Limited Range Deliverables?

I've just been given a spec for a "Limited Range" LtRt mix for a film.
It specifies +12db to -8db.
Does that mean they're expecting me to brickwall limit at -8db?
Or is it average levels or...

Re: DCP requirements

You just make a 24fps PT session and import your finished 23.98 mix file whilst applying the pull up to 24.

I do it the other way all the time to make 23.98 masters from 24 for US TV.

No...

Re: Lock Avid Control on Channels Pan page. No Dock

I'm guessing its because the old version wasn't so 'clever' in what you could attention and get it to switch on the IPad app?
Could there be a way that exra functionality could be switched off with...

Re: Anyone have the MTRX Studio Rack?

I have a bit of a noob question related to this.
Once you've configured the MTRX Studio with Dadman does it remember that configuration, or do you have to run Dadman in the background all the time?...

Re: Lock Avid Control on Channels Pan page. No Dock

Thanks Eddie.

It wasn't too long ago I worked on an S6. Maybe they just didn't know about that function, I certainly didn't. I'll make sure it's on next time. :-)

Having it in PT control...

Re: DX Multi-Mic Phase Rellationship

I always tend to try and use just one mic, choose the one that sounds the best and EQ that.

For me, multiple mics is a fallback situation when I'm trying to salvage badly recorded dialogue, or...

Re: Lock Avid Control on Channels Pan page. No Dock

Totally agree Yanos.
The surround pan window is the main thing I use PT Control for too and it is a massive pain to keep re-selecting it.

I can see the logic of the way it works now, but a pan...

Re: Show used Automation

A related problem I've found is that after you've done a couple or 32 :D re-conforms, random breakpoints get written all over the session.

The thin automation command often doesn't remove them...

Re: Show used Automation

Sure that's the way we all work, but there are plusses and minuses to both approaches.
Sometimes its easier or quicker to write automation with a knob or fader, sometimes easier and quicker to draw...

Re: Show used Automation

That would be a nice feature and something I've wanted for ages.
Something like 'show all written automation' and the lanes with automation written to them spill out under the selected track, very...

Re: Avid Dock...how much control?

+1 for the Dock.
I think it's the best surface Avid currently make.
Certainly in the 'bang for your buck' department, as my American friends say.:-)
The big jog shuttle wheel is my personal...
