Digital audio de-embedding

Does de-embedding digital audio from an HDMI or SDI source cause any shift in audio quality or latency? Or is it a direct and simple conversion?

I'm thinking of using one for Pro Tools 48Khz 24bit...

Just noticed one of my student's sessions - the dialogue is not registering on the PPMs connected to Ptools output and montioring level is very low.

I'm having the same problem on 8.0.4 LE with a DIG002.
If you hit play first, then click mute, it works.
Otherwise it's as you describe.

I thought the -12dB master fader had fixed the problem.
However I've got a dubbing mixer in today working on the session and weird stuff is happening again. So I'll give your suggestion...

Everything seem to still work ok , but the record button is now green on my transport controls.

I want to take sessions from my PC Protools Free at home to our Mac Protools 5.1 at work.
I tried opening a session from home at work, and the mac couldn't see either my PC session or the audio...
