Pre or Post fader Metering?

Any preferences between Pre or Post fader metering when mixing in ProTools? What do the "pros" do? Just wondering. I prefer pre-fader just so that I don't get all that red when I am trying stuff.

DMA is not an option on my hard drives, nor is the "allow PCI bus master...." an option under my BIOS. The guy who made the computer for me says he thinks that DMA is the default of the mother...
