Thanks - that would make sense. But the session settings and Bounce settings are the same sample rate.

Bouncing a short (2 sec) section is fine. Bouncing the whole 50 minute programme is not.

Hello, now the space bar works but only when the Edit Window is active - not when looking at the Mix Window. The play icon doesn't even flash green.
Running a pretty simple Stereo session, 48k 24bit...

This is suddenly happening to me in one large-ish 5.1 session. Fine in other simpler sessions. Clicking on play with the mouse plays. Using the Space Bar does not. Have trashed prefs. Any ideas?

Thanks for all the replies. It's fixed. I've unchecked 'Ignore Errors During Playback/ Record' and now - magically - playback just stops when the CPU is overrun but you don't get the bitcrush effect...

Normal option doesn't seem to affect it - the audio 'trips out' after a while to its weird 'bitcrushed'-sounding mode and won't return to normal definition until you toggle the Cache Size.

Definitely not running other apps helps a bit.

I can accept I'm pushing the computer a bit too hard, and I don't mind so much that playback occasionally stops when the processors get overwhelmed....
