Re: Wave forms look assymetrical - explanation.

There must be something horribly wrong with your system. All my sound waves are perfectly symmetrical! images/icons/rolleyes.gif

Sounds don't wait for the 'end of a wave' to change character,...

Re: becoming a better recording artist

How can you write music without any subject matter? I suggest you focus more on the feelings that you want to convey, and the feelings that inspire you to pick up your axe in the first place. Learn...

Re: New MOTU 896 Firewire audio Interace

If you ask me, Motu has made a big mistake releasing this ahead of the next Digi product (002 or whatever). The most significant advantage this 896 adds over the 828 or 001 is mic pre's (probably...

Re: CPU Accelerators for G4s

There is no accelerator for Protools on a G4 Mac other than an altivec-enabled version of Protools. It's due to be released last month, or next month, or next year, something like that...

Re: firewire / pro tools

If you're considering the prospect of transfering from Motu to Digi, look into the prospect of transferring from stand-alone hard drive recorders to a Protools system, similar obstacles, and you'd...

Re: New Cable for Digi001

Good luck, there's both digital signal wires and power wires to deal with. Digi's cable probably didn't optimize for each, but I suspect there's no reasonable subtitute available.

Re: Recording with SPDIF

That's the level the DAT was recorded at, and it's can't be altered until it's on the hard drive. Recording it through analog connections won't help the sound quality. Do the S/PDIF transfer as is,...

Re: Will Protools work without any hardware??

Only Protools Free will work without hardware or through 3rd party hardware. Check Digidesign's site for a list of its limitations.

Re: MAC, PC or Workstation?

This is an awful time to be choosing a new Protools system, since it doesn't support altivec, which would result in a 2.5x jump in processor power for 24-bit audio editing. Until then, PC's offer...

Re: Digi001 vs DSP FACTORY

With a Dual 500MHz G4 you're much better off with altivec-enabled host-based software like Digital Performer 3 or Logic Audio 5. With that in mind you'd be better off with a Motu 828 or 2408, or any...

Re: Pod Pro Success

Re-amping with a POD is a pretty dubious process, considering it's a fair bit of excess circuitry and no actual good amp involved. I'll spare the rant, I'm one of those people who thought the gizmo...

Re: Live band didn\'t record to PT internal metronome... now what?

Hit http://www.versiontracker.com for a freeware utility called MusicMath, which very handy for stuff like determining tempo, delay times, etc.

Re: Pod Pro Success

So POD Pro owners need only spend another $500 on a Mackie 1604 (lowest model with direct balanced outputs) to avoid the burden of owning a real guitar amp and appropriate mic, which as we all know...

Re: ADAT converters sound better than digi001?

If the a/d converters in ADATs are better than those in the 001, the $350 Alesis AI-3 probably has better 24-bit a/d and d/a converters. And we were orignally promised Focusrite converters for the...

Re: Unexpected $1,000: How to spend?

While the Waves and BombFactory plugs are money well spent, you should consider whether they're CPU well spent. Both plug-in bundles are known as some of the most CPU-intensive plugs on the market. ...

Re: max settings when using amIII all 4 inputs?

The AMIII can be used with a 24-bit session, the 18-bit analog inputs are just converted to 24-bit, and analog outputs are converted to 20-bit for playback. The files themselves and the effects...
