No, that is the way it is. Either heat is bypassed or ON, on a track basis.
One drive/tone control for ALL tracks which are enabled

Well for one thing and maybe the most important, the SSL board does not bring 2 Inch Tape saturation to the table. Unless, of course you record and playback thru a 2"

Better sounding is of course opinionated. I really like what HEAT does to the highs/life of the overall sound. It is kind of VERY hard to explain... The analog board I mix on at times has a 2" inch...

IMO == you cant compare it to Phoenix AT ALL....

I got Phoenix but I rarely use it... You have many other options in HEAT.
IMO - Heat is simply Fantassimo.

HEAT is worth EVERY cent and even more... That is of course merely my 'humble' opinion. I use it A LOT :-)
