I know it doesn't help, but I have the same Mac Pro (6GB, 10.6.4) + the Profire 2626 running flawlessly on an extra FW-PCIe-Card for its own (with TI chipset).
But I remeber it also worked well...

I wouldn't update to SL at all now!
There is no performance gain in Logic 9 right now (sorry, I couldn't run PT-MP) and I don't see any reason to upgrade for audio production.

I bought the MPT1 via Ebay, but only the MPT license, without all the plugins. I only needed the track expansion and Multitrack Beat-Detective.

Is there any way to upgrade to MPT2?

my point ist that I won't recommend anyone investing in outdated technology and the oxford 911 is proven working fine, but is for IDE drives.
there are also well testet "modern" oxford chipsets...

New driver for M-Audio FW1814 :-)

Finally the new driver (1.8.4-3) for the FW1814 solved all my issues on OS X 10.5.3 + PTMP 7.4.2
After short testing, everything seems to work fine now.

Indexing issue here too on M-Powered 7.4.2pr - every time I quit PT it starts indexing the HD (takes very long)

not so smooth here

i use the FW1814 as a system audio device and with PTMP. the driver works fine after a clean reboot with any applications as itunes, ... but when quitting PTMP i get and error ...
