Re: (Q) Netflix making it a requirement to deliver in audio in Atmos...?

I don’t see the unscripted shows forced into ATMOS any time soon. Maybe a documentary and feature film format, but not a reality TV show

Although I would have loved to hear ‘Fundit Bawls’ mixed in...

Re: (Q) Netflix making it a requirement to deliver in audio in Atmos...?

Yes, Netflix requires a minimum of 7.1.4. I was just responding to the general question of how to ‘fake it’ if someone can’t upgrade their room.

If it’s a Netflix show, you could predub in an...

Re: What is your reverb workflow/setup for Atmos?

+1 Stratus 3D. It is marvelous.

It listens for where the source audio enters the reverb, follows the movement, and creates reverberation in the space accordingly.

Also has some settings for...

Re: (Q) Netflix making it a requirement to deliver in audio in Atmos...?

We kind of got off topic. To go back to the OP, I'm on a Netflix Original three part documentary right now, and it's delivering in 5.1. So not everything is Atmos. Yet.

Re: (Q) Netflix making it a requirement to deliver in audio in Atmos...?

Why would your room not expand beyond 5.1? It doesn’t take a whole lot to add two surrounds and overheads.

If your room is really, really small, you can still monitor with 5.1 though the...

Re: Dolby Atmos hardware requirement for Production/Mastering suite

According to the v3.3 documentation for the Mastering Suite, Dante or MADI are still required to connect one or more protools computers to a HT-RMU.

They only mention Dolby Audio Bridge for the...

Re: Dolby Atmos hardware requirement for Production/Mastering suite

The HT RMU and Cinema RMU are two different versions of the Mastering Suite. The Cinema RMU creates a deliverable for DCP.

It sounds like now you can make an ADM BWV deliverable with the...

Re: Dolby Atmos hardware requirement for Production/Mastering suite

Wow! I was wrong. Sorry about that. It looks like they added ADM BWAV export to the Production Suite in v3. It couldn't do it in v2.

Re: Dolby Atmos hardware requirement for Production/Mastering suite

That is incorrect. Only the Mastering Suite can create the ADM BWAV master files for delivery.

The Production Suite can only create .atmos files. You can finish a full mix in the Production...

Re: (Q) Netflix making it a requirement to deliver in audio in Atmos...?

That happens sometimes. I've had QC flag 'no LFE', and also 'no constant audio in the rear surrounds', or my favorite, 'music in the center channel'.

It's b.s., just use the magic words,...

Re: (Q) Netflix making it a requirement to deliver in audio in Atmos...?

Nope. No requirement for activity on all channels.

Can you imagine if there always had to be sound playing out the dieting, surrounds, etc. That would be exhausting.

Re: (Q) Netflix making it a requirement to deliver in audio in Atmos...?

It does make sense when you consider the point is to have a format that does the best job to recreate the intended mix in different playback environments. Including one of the most important being-...

Re: (Q) Netflix making it a requirement to deliver in audio in Atmos...?

Well, that's not a good comparison at all. It's not like an Atmos mix is requiring production audio to be recorded any different. That's still exactly the same.

Re: Dolby Atmos hardware requirement for Production/Mastering suite

You need the Mastering Suite if you have the need to create the ADM BWAV for delivery. That would be for streaming, broadcast, or DVD.

Re: Anyone using FreeNAS for network project storage?

Hi Frank. Sorry for the delay; lots of deadlines lately. I have been too busy to spend much time on this server project. At the moment, I'm only using it for duplicate backup, and it's using a 1Gb...

Re: Anyone using FreeNAS for network project storage?

Thanks, Jochen. Do you know what OS their servers are running? Just curious. Several media servers (like OWC) run on FreeNAS.

Re: Anyone using FreeNAS for network project storage?

Possibly overkill, but that was intensional. ZFS is constantly checking blocks as it writes. And I'm using ZFS3, which uses a 3 disk parity. Plus data compression. And all three of those things...

Re: How to go from Apple TV digital out to MTRX?

Yep, the 64 ch Dante card is about $500, but well worth every penny. You can use those adapters to get any analog signal into it (or out, they make opposite adapters too). Plus any computer you have...

Re: How to go from Apple TV digital out to MTRX?

Any chance you have a Dante card on your MTRX? I use these adapters to get as much audio input as I need....

Re: How to go from Apple TV digital out to MTRX?

So you are trying to record the audio signal?

Usually the output from the Apple TV is a Dolby encoded output. Are you tying to record a simple stereo, 5.1, or Atmos?

Re: Anyone using FreeNAS for network project storage?

Thanks, I took the plunge and built a 20-core, 128 GB RAM, 64 TB storage server. So far so good.

As for PT playback, any server should work pretty well. Most sessions load into RAM. The big...

Re: Dante Virtual Sound Card running with HDX?

Oh, bummer to hear that’s happening in Mojave. I’m still on 10.12.6, and is pretty much ‘set it and forget it’.

Re: Dante Virtual Sound Card running with HDX?

Yes, it works great. I put DVS on all my machines to get stereo audio out of RX, Basehead, etc. DVS runs into my MTRX. I can even assign separate volume controls on the S6.
