Re: EDIROL R-1 _ Totally cool capture device for PT

That's good news from someone with 35 yrs experience because I'm currently trying to decide between that and the Marantz PMD660. I've been trying to find issues and problems with either one on the...

Automated invoicing software or macro template

Re: Reinstalling Windows

"Reinstalling" an image isn't the same as installing from a CD.

Re: Reinstalling Windows

I don't think it's possible to uninstall and reinstall without what's on the actual installation disc. You can't really "save an OS" per say. You can save an image of it but that won't be the same as...

Quantize audio region

Hi,

Is there a way to qauntize an audio region for a performance that had poor tempo? Maybe something that looks at the waveform peaks and elongates or shortens the distance between them using the...

Plug-in floppy authorize for 6.1.1

Hi,

I got Soundreplacer with the authorization floppies when I had 5.3.1, and now 6.1.1 is looking for iLok authorization. I don't have to actually pay for an iLok now do I? Since I already had...

Re: Choosing a firewire hard drive. Recommendations?

I wouldn't worry about it. Parking was used more as a way to protect the HD wasn't it? ..rather than positioning the head for faster startup. A read/write HD is so insanely fast I don't think parking...

Re: WOULD LOVE AN ANSWER FOR THIS ONE!!

I'm sure you have thought of this already but I would uninstall bomb factory if possible, at least as a first step, since it's the only thing you've done differently. Also maybe you did some other...

Re: Choosing a firewire hard drive. Recommendations?

Well, I'm a proponent of RAID but that's the theoretical transfer rate. Real world will be less than that. Which RAID card are you using?

Re: Choosing a firewire hard drive. Recommendations?

Hello to you too Marcus. Whatever floats your boat is dandy, but for me, aside from having no particular desire to spend at least an extra $100 (not $20-$30 as you put it.. check some prices) for a...

Re: Choosing a firewire hard drive?

More in the case of RAID and PT really. RAID can work for audio but it is a shaky proposition in the scope of a typical PTLE system. Where RAID is successful is usually on a subsystem, independent of...

Re: Choosing a firewire hard drive. Recommendation

Yes, that was definitely inaccurate of me . In the overzealous quest against overpriced hardware I forsake accuracy for oversimplification.

Although still very cheap in cost, the interface board...

Re: Choosing a firewire hard drive. Recommendations?

I would stay away from Lacie drives. Very poor construction and inferior components. Just a sexy name and package design. If you ever get the opportunity open up a Lacie "drive" might be fun to look...

Re: Separate hard drive

You mentioned video; if you're editing video it should be on a separate drive. Basically the same reasons as having audio for PT on a separate drive. Unlike for audio, RAID 0 will give you massive...

Re: Separate hard drive

Not quite milliseconds. I haven't timed it with a stopwatch yet... hehe, but lets' try many seconds. Working as a video editor for many years on various systems I can attest that in any type of post...

Re: Separate hard drive

Every source I've come across, including Digidesign, has confirmed that PT wants to live on the system drive.

Be that as it may, since you've been using the DUC a lot longer than me you would...

Re: Separate hard drive

Perhaps a rule of thumb if you're not into customizing your system. 99% of programs will work on a non-system drive. They will work better and faster than if installed on your system drive. What you...

Re: 002 Pre\'s Pretty Darn Good!!!

Many people automatically assume an outboard pre is going to be better than the 002's but the 002's mic preamplifier design is based on the "Pre" unit used for TDM systems.

Re: Matrox video cards - really that good?

That's great for someone who has nothing to put in their PCI slots and can fill up every slot with a video card.

Re: Separate hard drive

It's not an option. Pro Tools must be installed on the system drive. It will not run correctly if you install on a drive other than the system drive.

Why should you install all programs on...

Re: one more monitor question......

Sounds like it makes some sense except I don't think Genelec is a public company. Not sure on this.

Assuming everything you say is correct, degradation of quality still has its tolerable limits....
