Working very well here after clean install. Totally worth it, IMO. I had been using that in-situ upgrade system for testing for some months and was just waiting for a right time to do a clean...

If you have all other stuff besides PT then the easiest way to flawlessly working system is here:


Upgrade your current system to Catalina
Let all your music, photo, etc. libraries...

Yes, the HDX cards should require PCIe 2.0 x4 and HDN card should work with PCIe 2.0 x1 -- note that HDX does not necessarily use all that x4 throughput available, but that x1 is not enough.

Yes. And copy stuff back manually, not any ducking Migration Assassin or Time Machine. That is the only way to be sure you have a clean platform.

I don't have first hand experience as I have a Trashcan, but that super fast NVMe thing requires a PCIe card as all the SATA bays and optical bays are limited to SATA speeds

Trashcans can handle NVMe SSD's natively but for Cheesegraters they say Mojave is much better and while High Sierra can do it booting with black screen may be too much of a hassle

From what I have understood Mojave is better choice if you have or plan to have SSD's
