Just for kicks, I would back up any files that are on the drive, and then do a full format/initialization. I had weird problems a while back, and everything was fixed simply by doing this.

I don't think it's the partition, though I only say that from my experience. I've got a 120 gig WD drive in a fw/usb enclosure, also hooked up to a siig card. It has one big ntfs...
