Re: Trying to get 001 to work again, OSX 10.3.9

Tha last version of PTLE that works with the 001 is 6.4cs9. That last version of CAD that works is 6.9. This is all assuming you don't update QuickTime beyond 6.5.2. That seems to be the major...

Re: Coreaudio, digi 001 and Tiger.

I used Digi Core Audio 6.9 on my Panther 10.3.9 system with an 001. It was fairly stable for the most part, but would get kinda wonky with some 3rd party apps mostly games. PTLE 6.4 was rock solid.

Re: PT7.1 - QT & OS compatibility

I guess it's not working that great then.

I can run a full track count with no issues as long as I don't get too carried away with CPU-intensive plugs. I don't use any fancy plugs though just EQ,...

Re: PT7.1 - QT & OS compatibility

That's newer than what I'm using. How's it working for you?

What's your M-Audio hardware/driver version?

Re: Formatting Old SCSI drive on old MAC & DD hardware

SCA drives with adapters can be problematic, and SCSI is subject to enough voodoo without adding that to the mix. Better to use a 68-pin drive if you can't find a true 50-pin.

The golden rules of...

Re: What Trackball or Mouse Do You Use?

I'm a trackball guy myself. I use this one. (http://us.kensington.com/html/4771.html)

I generally dislike mice, but I have a Microsoft wireless notebook mouse that I use with my Powerbook. It...

Re: Temperature monitor software for OS9?

Cool! *pun intended*

A cool running Mac is a happy, and long-lived Mac.

Re: Firwire Bus reset

Most cheaper commercially available "power conditioners" are little more than glorified surge protectors. A good UPS will maintain a constant voltage level while filtering out noise on the line.

Re: Firwire Bus reset

I would never run without a good UPS in my neighborhood. The power here is pretty bad. Not a lot of outages, but lots of voltage fluctuations/noise.

Re: Something we should all buy into...

Not an argument just an observation by someone who has been playing, listening, and recording for more years than many on this board have been alive. Still trying to perfect the art. It's a never...

Re: Something we should all buy into...

The problem is most people don't really listen to music anymore.

It's a nice thought, but I don't need a RMS monitoring plug-in to tell me if something sounds good or not. The very fact that...

Re: Firwire Bus reset

Simple things first: try a different cable, and make sure your ports are clean.

+1

I had a Maxtor ext. drive that would go to sleep after a few minutes of inactivity, and would not wake up. Couldn't change the sleep setting with Mac OS. Had to hook it to a PC for that. It...

Re: Digitizing Analog tape

Why are you going through the inserts then into the sound in?

Just go straight from the deck to the line in on the M-Box. Don't clip, but don't worry if the levels are kinda low. You can...

Re: 001 basics

You can still find 120GB drives, but they are no longer manufactured so the supply is drying up. You can use a larger drive, but you'll have to partition it so the first partition is less than 128GB....

Re: 001 basics

The G5 iMacs tend to run very warm, and are prone to failures because of it.

If all you're doing is basic recording/editing/mixing with minimal plugs the G4/001 will serve you well. It's a very...

Re: 001 basics

Going to 6.4 will enable you to set your CPU usage to 99% which is about a 10% boost. Not enough to offset the extra CPU requirements of OSX. With a dual 450 I think you're better off staying with 9....

Exactly!

I love my PPCs, but I'm waiting for the developers to be free of the PPC albatross before I move to Intel.

Re: Something funny happened on the way to the Apple forum

I know somebody who works at an Apple store, and they have some pretty strict rules on what they can say too.

Apple is a very image-conscience company. Almost to the point of OCD.

Re: Something funny happened on the way to the Apple forum

The heavy-handed moderation on the Apple forum is one reason why I don't frequent that place. I suspect they are just trying to keep things from getting out of hand i.e. it's easier to just nuke any...

Re: help! digi001 issues

001 will only work in a G4 or older. It is 5V PCI, and is not compatible with G5 or newer. PTLE 5.1 will not work in classic mode. You need to be able to boot from OS9. Some later model G4s cannot do...
