If you have a 17" Macbook Pro from 2011, isn't that already an i7 processor? FWIW I use a 2011 Macbook Pro as my mobile machine and it still works great with PT12 and OS Sierra.

I'm running the latest PT 12.8.1 with Sierra (10.12.6). I use a 2013 iMac and a 2011 MacBook Pro and I've been very happy with the PT12/003 performance on both.

My 003 console has continued working flawlessly through each version of PT12. I'm currently using OS Sierra 10.12.5 and PT 12.8 with no issues. Still love my 003!

I'm experiencing the same thing when opening older ptf sessions in 12.4. As mesaone suggests, you can modify the group properties and make sure that Solo is enabled.
