Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

I too am running the latest versions of everything on a Mac Pro Mid 2012 12 core. I just randomly grabbed DSP plugins and through them on. So, my test was not real world or scientific. My screenshot...

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

I disabled hyperthreading and a new world opened up.
For the first time I was able to bounce to disk in real time without errors.

For fun I loaded up my HDX card with way more plugins than I...

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

Very interesting, I just instantiated Ozone 8 on the session that this started on. I will try your other suggestions to see if that will help.

Tack så mycket

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

So, I’m getting this error message suddenly. Could it be that my HDX card has been moved from slot 2 to slot 3? Since my new Radeon RX560 graphics card doesn’t need 16 lanes, would there be any...

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

I own a Sound Construction Isobox. Very expensive though. New around $2500 with Mac tray and table top, if you go that route. But, you can now find them used for around $600. Still expensive, but it...

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

I have an Isobox with the slide-out tray that the Mac sits sideways on. This gives me room above for my 192s and it's easy to slide the Mac out to work on and slide it back in when done. Seems to run...

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

I am so sorry, I misspoke, my fan is running non-stop. I updated my previous post. I didn't hear it, so I thought it wasn't running. My mistake. I don't think it would matter, but my Mac is laying...

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

For me it was a HUGE improvement in speed. But, I was running the stock SATA Mac Bay drives. In Pro Tools, Sytem Usage shows my CPU at 1% sometimes jumping to 2%. Before I was at 65% to 70% on the...

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

IStat Menus has a free 2 week trial. iStat tells you everything and then some.
I belive the operating safe max of the 970 is 176 degrees fahrenheight, 80 degrees celcius.

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

Here are a few more pics.

The first is the back of the Crest. If you look at the far left you will see the two srews that attach to the brass risers from the bottom to keep them on the board. Then...

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

The pads are heat sink pads with adhesive on them. There is one on the Crest processor too. I know it is obvious, but be sure to pull the blue film off.

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

I am so glad it was a bad Crest. I really like the speed I am seeing. The crashes were a little anoying. :-)

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

Here are some photos showing how the support under the ssd card should look.
One screw attaches into the brass riser from the back side of the card and the second screw holds the ssd card down.

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

Yes, the directions are non-existant, but I did figure it out and was going to post photos after I got it up and running. Mine are parallel to the Crest. It turns out I did have a bad card. The new...

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

I have a Samsung 2 TB 850 EVO in my OWC sled too.

I’m not sitting with a stop watch, so my times may not be accurate, but it is really fast.

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

That is what I believe too.
The fact that it will install Mojave to either ssd drive when only one ssd drive is installed in the Crest certainly seems to prove that only one drive is necessary in...
