Re: Can I use one audio interface with 2 DAW opened at the same time?

This does not require an innovative developer, it requires Avid to step up. As I mentioned in a previous post, other Windows apps work fine when sharing an audio interface. It shouldn't be hard,...

Re: Can I use one audio interface with 2 DAW opened at the same time?

On PC, with other DAWs, they can share the sound card interface. I've had various combinations of Samplitude, Vegas, Reaper, and all sorts of audio / video apps share the interface, no problem.

Re: How Is Sample Rounding STILL A THING

??? Reaper does that easily. You can route any audio or MIDI track to any other. There's a routing matrix, which is quick when doing multiple sends, or you can just drag the send from one track to...

Re: Is Pro Tools behind the curve?

Let's hope Avid doesn't make a "smart move" and sell off PT.

Re: Is Pro Tools behind the curve?

I don't know any specifics about writing code for those chips. But I do know that, in the end, the real time performance almost always depends on the skill and expertise of the programmers writing...

Re: Is Pro Tools behind the curve?

Do you know that from technical expertise, or are you making an assumption? From the outside looking in it seems like there could have some impact. A different CPU will have different scheduling...

Re: Is Pro Tools behind the curve?

You sound like some of the marketing people at places I worked, back in my software engineering days. "Nothing to it" they would be telling upper management and customers. Meanwhile the SE's have to...

Re: Is Pro Tools behind the curve?

Re-compiling code for a different processor is never easy. It will be a challenge. You can all but guarantee it will be much more than a straight recompile, and some code will need to be modified. So...

Re: Is Pro Tools behind the curve?

I apologize if it seems I am unloading on you, because I know you sincerely want to help people, and this is not your doing. I appreciate the help you have given over the years, and I try to offer...

Re: Is Pro Tools behind the curve?

When the solution to every problem that creeps up is to completely rebuild your computer from scratch in the *hope* that it will fix errors, there is something very, very wrong with the software. And...

Re: Is Pro Tools behind the curve?

There must be 50 plugins that do various console emulations and saturation that compete well with Heat. It really comes down to taste. There are superb SSL E, G, and G emulations. Neve 1073, 1084,...

Re: Is Pro Tools behind the curve?

Standard clip gain and clip FX are built in to most DAWs. Regarding converting it to Automation, you could do it, but in Reaper it's not the best way to get from point A to point B. In Reaper you...

Re: Is Pro Tools behind the curve?

PT is fine, and if it's doing the job you need it to do, great. There's no need to compare.

But if you are going to compare, then you should know most every other DAW has all of these features,...

Re: Is Pro Tools behind the curve?

It's been a long time, and I I don't remember the details. But I remember that the Atari somehow clocked the MIDI ports to hardware, which is why the timing was so perfect - possibly better than any...

Re: Is Pro Tools behind the curve?

Yeah, it's behind the curve. Over the last few years other DAWs have continued to innovate and develop, while Avid mostly stood still. And now most of the others have passed PT by. That doesn't mean...

Re: Folder Tracks (videos & blogs)

I strongly prefer having the entire drum track as a single MIDI track, but everyone works differently. Anyway, for me, it's perfect.

Re: Folder Tracks (videos & blogs)

A virtual instrument routed to several tracks - for example, a drum kit instrument that feeds separate outputs. Because the instrument is fed from a single MIDI input, there are no MIDI or WAV files...

Re: Folder Tracks (videos & blogs)

Yeah, that seems like an obvious oversight. Kind of surprising, and I agree, not as useful. I'm not sure about other DAWs, but in Reaper they are separate. In addition to being able to collapse or...

Re: Folder Tracks (videos & blogs)

I spent decades in the analog world. I love folder tracks. If you never use more than a few tracks folders are no big deal. Otherwise, in a short while you'll love them too.

Re: Folder Tracks?

Manually routing the contained tracks to the folder track is an unnecessary step that should be automatic.

Re: Folder Tracks?

I have an old license and I won't get folder tracks in PT, so take these comments accordingly. But I do use Reaper and its folder tracks a lot, and I can tell you that for me, it is a game changer....

Re: Frozen files

The simple reason is for Undo. You unfreeze a track accidentally and want to re-freeze it. But now one of the plugins is no longer on the system. If the freeze had to be recalculated it wouldn't work...

Regarding the short throw faders - did you know there are a myriad of skins that provide various views that can include faders that are extremely long throw? And specialty views, for example, a mixer...

Re: Why MP3 encoding restricted to 16 bit ?

I'm not sure you understand bit depth. The number of bits does not increase or decrease levels. it only increases signal detail and raises the S/N ration. You can overload a signal just as easily in...
