Re: Budget USB interface for 5.1 monitoring

That's interesting to hear. I have certainly read some positive comments about Behringer more recently.
I had completely forgotten that many years ago, I bought a Behringer ADA8000/Ultragain Pro-8....

Re: Budget USB interface for 5.1 monitoring

Many thanks for all the thoughts. Some positive ideas to move forward with.

Re: Budget USB interface for 5.1 monitoring

I'd not considered the Behringer, although I imagine the DAC would now be quite reasonable.
I had a further thought – I currently use an RME Digiface USB to monitor the stereo. As this has ADAT...

Re: Budget USB interface for 5.1 monitoring

I'm looking well under £500. This is not for serious work – just to revisit a few old projects and investigate some possibilities. There are a few interfaces that will o/p six channels. but it would...

Budget USB interface for 5.1 monitoring

Almost all my current work is bounced to stereo and, therefore, monitored in stereo. I have a few historic surround recordings, and I'm looking to see whether there's a budget USB interface for Pro...

Re: Pro Tools Hardware Requirements

Thank you for this. I'm very happy with how PT8 is running under Snow Leopard – it serves my needs and is well backed up – its speed is not a big issue. I can't afford a new/secondhand computer but...

Re: Pro Tools Hardware Requirements

I learned the lesson about backups a good many years ago. I have two clones of the startup drive, updated with Superduper every time the Mac is in use. Incidentally, the startup drive is a new SSD –...

Re: Pro Tools Hardware Requirements

Fair enough – I'm just surprised at the language in such a forum – especially from the moderator.
My older system works brilliantly for what I need, so I wouldn't chastise it like this, and I don't...

Re: Pro Tools Hardware Requirements

Whilst I take your point about speed etc, I would resist the temptation to describe my current setup as 'crap'. I'm currently editing a new symphonic album – 48 tracks of 96/24 with many plugins –...

Re: Pro Tools Hardware Requirements

I already have an extra drive with Monterey installed and plan to try the one-month trial of PT to see how it goes. No shortage of USB interfaces in the studio, including RME which I love.

Re: Pro Tools Hardware Requirements

Thank you both for your thoughts and time. This particular Mac Pro is fully updated, so that's not an immediate issue. Finding the money to buy a newer model might well be! Although I've given this...

Pro Tools Hardware Requirements

This may be a naive question …

I've been running Pro Tools 8 HD on a Mac Pro 1,1 (OS10.6.8) for a good many years without trouble. However, I'm considering taking advantage of a deal for PT...

Re: Whether to buy Pro Tools Studio Perpetual

Thank you so much for the comprehensive replies. I suspect this may go nowhere, at least for now, but I'm much better informed.

I have three MacPros here including one I use for writing which is...

Whether to buy Pro Tools Studio Perpetual

Some retailers in the UK are selling Pro Tools Studio with a perpetual licence. The details also state, as expected, no 'need for renewal'. However, they also state that it comes with a 1-year...

Re: Crossfade showing white space

I may have tracked this down to a file in use earlier in the session (not at the problem point), having gone missing. Having now deleted that file from the region list, normal behaviour seems to have...

Occasional bursts of white noise when using Audiosuite

A strange issue has arisen recently when using Audiosuite plugins (EQ, Pitch n' Time, RX2 etc).

Not always, but occasionally, processing a section using one of these plugins will cause a burst of...

Crossfade showing white space

I'm experiencing something not previously seen in many years of using ProTools.

I have a file in which crossfades suddenly appear not to be writing – without any warning or error dialogues. I can...

Re: Adding accel card to Pro Tools 8 HD Mac

Might I ask one further question –

I've located a PCIe accel card. Is there a preference for the order in which they go inside the computer? For some reason, I seem to remember seeing something...

Re: Adding accel card to Pro Tools 8 HD Mac

Great thinking – I'll have a think about the old system although I don't think I'll be updating my HD system anytime soon as I simply can't afford all the inherent upgrades, and I'm very reluctant to...

Thank you, Janne. It's a 2007 MacPro, so PCIe. I appreciate your support with this.

Re: Adding accel card to Pro Tools 8 HD Mac

Thank you so much for this - much appreciated. I assume that there was only ever one incarnation of this card and that a card advertised as a 'Digi accel PCI card for Pro Tools HD' would fit the bill...
