Re: Is there a point to HD Native any more?

Just a data point here: you can't use a SYNC HD without the HD Native hardware. But if you don't need SYNC, then don't worry about it...

Re: What kind of iPad do I need to run PT App?

That’s a great iPad. Based on the specs and the dimensions it will work perfectly. You can’t upgrade the memory after purchase. But FWIW, 32GB is a fine size for using an iPad for administrative...

Re: Eucontrol and Protools Control having major issues

Cory, have you tried a wired connection with the USB camera kit and ethernet adapter? There's also an app out there called "cleanEuphonixSystem.app" that gets rid of everything so you can start...

Re: What kind of iPad do I need to run PT App?

And yes, regarding size, the 9.7" models fit best. I think somewhere on this list someone is jamming the new 10.5" model into the Dock. Not worth the hassle IMO. 12" doesn't fit, and mini looks silly.

Re: What kind of iPad do I need to run PT App?

What I meant was that the mini I tried has the same chip as the 9.7 inch one you're looking at (A7). So it'll work. The PT Control iOS app is not a high-CPU thing. Most of the work is being done by...

Re: What kind of iPad do I need to run PT App?

Before I bought the Dock, I borrowed an iPad mini 2 and ran PT Control on it. Worked really well. The iPad mini 2 is also an A7 chip and a 2013 release, just like the iPad Air you're looking at, so...

Re: Video playback host?

You're welcome. I strongly recommend an AJA card. They're cheap, playback is solid, and you can put the picture on a dedicated screen, separate from your mouse, plug-in windows etc.

Re: Video playback host?

Try running DNxHD 36 or Pro-Res proxy videos on your rig directly in Pro Tools. If performance feels good to you, you're good to go. To improve performance after that test try:

-dedicated video...

Re: Feature request -post fader inserts on tracks/aux

Just finished mixing a program with a lot of dynamic dialog. Would have been really helpful to have post-fader inserts, so I'm bringing this thread back after eleven years!

Vote here:

Re: Update old Pro tools system

Mixing on a native system, I've seen no stability difference at all between using Avid interfaces vs. using an Apogee Ensemble. I'm sure RME would perform well. I guess the main drawback is that many...

Re: DeVinci Resolve and ProTools?

I have dark tales to tell you, and horrifying secrets to share: missing media, tracks out of sync, complete lack of crossfades, no clip gain whatsoever!

But seriously, after a lot of...

Re: Update old Pro tools system

You can get used HD Native PCIe cards on eBay. But I don't think staying in the cheesegrater ecosystem is a good investment at this point.

Get a refurb trashcan. You'll be stunned by how fast it...

Re: Scoring tv show on 2018 vanilla?

If you don't need surround sound, Dolby Atmos, advanced automation, destructive punch and multiple videos in the timeline, you should be fine. Scoring has a different set of needs than mixing. Talk...

Re: Developing a DNxHD workflow?

I hope Blackmagic and Steinberg continue to give Avid some DAW competition! Makes the market healthier and more interesting.

Re: No More Headphone yet private listening?

Would love to hear this, but I recently discovered the benefits of watching movies or TV shows with AirPods. They work with Apple TV or a Mac mini and sound okay.

Re: Video Format: Encoded Size vs. Display Size?

After some more testing, I found that I could run AVE all day at 40% CPU usage by going 1280 x 720p. For most programs, that looks good enough in a medium-sized post room. Size matters, scaling...

Video Format: Encoded Size vs. Display Size?

I have a video from a client:

DNxHD
bit rate 100 Mbit/s
interlaced
encoded size 1440 x 1080
display size 1920 x 1080

It doesn't perform well. A little choppy, AVE reads 160% CPU usage....

Blank squares in Mixer view

Hello Eddie:

I know you guys are working on this, but the Control app in Mixer view needs to utilize the blank squares on the top of each channel. I think ideally a pan puck should be there.

Re: New Computer And New Setup

You're going to love being Native after mixing on the old HD systems. At a minimum, put 16GB RAM in the Mac. You'll be stressed out with only 8GB. If you can upgrade to i7, do it, but the i5 should...

Re: Composing gig on an older PT system? Possible?

If I remember correctly, Pro Tools 6 can run the 23.976 frame rate. You should be good to go. Don't cue any sad violins. A lot of major work is done on surprisingly old systems.

Re: Pro Subharmonic Issues

This is interesting. I always do a 'write to all enabled' on every track in the pre-roll so everything has at least one node. But even without nodes, the recall w/o auto should be right. It was bugs...

Re: Pro Tools | Control on appstore

Just in case you don't already know about this: http://vcontrolpro.com/ios/

I prefer the in-house solution with EuCon, but Neyrinck is a great company, too.

Re: Looking for suggestions on a 5.1 monitor controller

+1 to epm. Lots of audio interfaces do surround monitoring control in a simple but effective way. You'll save a lot of money that way.

MBox Pro 3 sounds good and will be supported out to March...

Re: GDPR and Avid's advice to turn off Filevault

No one knows because none of us have FileVault on. Interesting problem though. Do report back when you find out.
