Re: Surround flies

For a general background noise of flies, I just make fly buzzing noises with my mouth and add harmonies and start layering. Add to that some real flies and the result is Lord of the Flies!

Re: Flashback Monday - PT 12 Release Meeting at AVID

That had me laughing out loud (again!)

But the sad truth is, we are down to one visiting engineer still using PT and one permanent member of the team using an older version that she is familiar...

Re: Gunshot sfx in the movie HEAT

Not only is it obviously post, but it is too 'soft' to be anything else. It really does sound like recorded on a range, as the softness comes from being at a distance. The real thing, close up is...

Re: Are us post guys really under appreciated or am I just paranoid?

Classic BS merchants looking for freebees, when they are in no position to do so!

I followed brilliantly by -

As much as I abhor gear snobbishness, if someone is serious about their work, they...

Re: Are us post guys really under appreciated or am I just paranoid?

Good for you - well done. That's pretty much how everybody starts!

Just remember the words of Hillaire Belloc -

"Oh beware the ketchup bottle,
First nothing comes and then a lot'll!"

Re: Are us post guys really under appreciated or am I just paranoid?

Most of the people I get to meet that are working on sound for pictures in the UK are Surrey Tonmeister grads and they tend to know one another and are sometimes accused of being a sort of Mafia! ...

Re: Alternatives to Pro Tools - Pro and Cons

:D

A few yes, mostly no!

The staff lay-offs were true and noises about other staffing issues were also true, but all those reports of Avid's imminent demise seem to have been somewhat...

Re: Alternatives to Pro Tools - Pro and Cons

DaVinci-Resolve will incorporate 3D sound and the DTS 'Multi-Dimensional Audio' system, which is being hailed as superior to Dolby's Atmos. There will also be a relatively cheap audio render card to...

Re: Alternatives to Pro Tools - Pro and Cons

The new version of DaVinci-Resolve from Black Magic Design is to feature a full set of Fairlight tools and costs just $299 and should be out very soon.

Failing that, use anything and combine it...

Re: Why so expensive son? (cost of audio education)

Recording music is today a consumer activity. Only a fool pays to study a consumer activity.

Re: Enough of Avid

Not one - that's why fewer and fewer people are using ProTools!

We too 'jumped' to Reaper a few years ago. Notation, flawless elastic audio, video editing, infinite routing, multi-channel output...

Re: Tim Carroll Leaves Avid To Join Focusrite As CEO

That is one large part of the problem. But there are so many other parts - Avid really is a study in how to make every management mistake in the book. M&As at silly prices that made no sense,...

Re: "I'm leaving Pro Tools for ... DAW"

We have PT for one reason and one reason only - people ask for it.

Personally, I stopped using it almost as soon as I started, as it just does not have most of the 'must-have' features I require. ...

Re: Selling software, where have all the business-models gone?

We have a ban on paying monthly payments for something that is not a constant supply, such as electricity, telephones or on-line server space.

Software is not a constant supply, but a licensed...

Re: Avid marketing nonsense and Pro Tools plans.

Yes, but there is a right way and a wrong way to go from package to subscription sales.

Adobe did it the right way. You need two things -

1. A large cash reserve, because you will experience...

Re: Avid Stock Could Double - Well Maybe (If)?

The end is not nigh, not by a long-chalk. Avid may be drifting and the latest results, once one factors in the Orad (poor) results, may be reason for grave concern, but the current CEO is no idiot...

Re: Avid Stock Could Double - Well Maybe (If)?

Outstanding is not the word I would use, as it neither drills down to the core of the figures (e.g. failing to point out the inclusion of Orad's figures and the fall in Orad's turnover) or highlight...

Re: I'm no lawyer...Cloud/Avid Artist Community Terms of Use

FAQs are not Terms and Conditions of Service.

The question was, where in the terms of service does it specifically exclude Cloud Collaboration?

Re: Avid Customer Association (ACA) email

I very much doubt it. Avid is hopelessly over-structured. It is a medium-sized tech company with giant low-tech corporation structure. The present management, by acquiring Orad, have shown that...
