Re: RIP Simon Leadley

Oh no. That is not welcomed news. He was a creative and talented man and will leave a hole.

Are there any details about what happened?

Re: Machine Control (DA98HR in particular)

Is there a "default" or "factory" setting? I would have thought digital 1-8 would be the default, but I just downloaded a manual for 98HR and I see that is listed 2nd on page 71.

Re: Machine Control (DA98HR in particular)

The DA98 profile does NOT work as expected, the DA88 profile does. I checked 7.4 and 8.0. I verified that my DA88's enable mapping was set for 1-1,2-2 using "digital" track commands. (Inside a DA88...

Re: Machine Control (DA98HR in particular)

Hi Ya'll,

I'll check when I get to the studio today. In the meantime:
Sounds reasonable. In the "old" days there were analog tracks 1,2,cue,TC. Then some video decks introduced digital tracks...

Re: track sorting advice

I wrote it quite a few years ago and some info (video decks, specific steps to export from Avid) is now obviously out of date, but it is otherwise still relevant. Here's the direct link:...

Re: Well, beam me up slappy!

I was just looking for that update a week or two ago! Thanks for the tip, Tom. RTAS, pfhehh! If RX Denoise sounds anything like the stand alone in "realtime" mode, fugeddaboutit. Audiosuite, though,...

Re: DigiBeta communication anomaly

100 feet of cable is trivial. Hmm, maybe the 422 interface on deck 1 has a problem? I'd break out a 'scope and study the signals on both ends of the wire run, with the connectors plugged into their...

Re: DigiBeta communication anomaly

Of course you've tried this already but just to double check,

Configure room 1 to control deck 2. After confirming that it works properly, move the serial line from the back of deck 2 to deck 1....

Re: 30 FPS Drop?

Yes
SyncIO (and SyncIO HD) does not generate video or bilevel/trilevel reference signals. It can work off its own internal crystal timers or genlock its operation to a number of external...

Re: 30 FPS Drop?

There is nothing wrong with that! Drop frame code and Non-Drop frame code only differ in the sequence of numbers applied to the timecode. It is perfectly valid to use a Drop Frame number sequence...

Re: PAL NTSC ISDN

MOJO is perfectly happy playing a PAL QT through an NTSC monitor, and even referenced to NTSC. Its kind of down and dirty but will be good enough to judge ADR by. There will be up to 1 frame of sync...

Re: AAF vs OMF and DigiTranslator

Hi Michael,

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think Digitranslator 1 supports aaf. That is the standalone version that you got when you purchased Digitranslator. And, DT 2 that came with 6.4 also should...

Re: Specs for Broadcast, Leq(a), Peak audio and reference le

That's the way it is! Without some kind of sound filling in all the holes between words, an Leq(a) reading drops by a couple of db usually. This is why I have such a problem with Leq in the first...

Re: Audio Reference levels in a digital workflow

"Reference level" implies an average, RMS, power level. I assume that is what you mean to talk about, not digital peak levels, right? A reference level of -12dbfs is indeed higher than most. Programs...

Re: imported session data overwrites current automation!?

Try it the old way. Import to new tracks (do not match tracks), cut-paste from new tracks to your destination tracks (you can do a few tracks at a time or the whole thing), delete the new tracks once...

Re: Help For A Beginner On The Dubbing Stage

For my tastes, it is most important to provide split mixes, as suggested above, less important about surround panning. Your post supervisor asked for LCR, which is, as you know, 3 channels. He/she is...

Re: Export as AAF observations

Ha! Yeah, I almost suggested that but of course it is not an acceptable solution. It's a fine idea if you only need to place cues, and not do serious editing. Simon has pointed out it's hopeless if...

Re: Export as AAF observations

I do completely agree with you! What I've wished to see:

1. Allow Pro Tools to quantize automation to frame boundaries so that volume moves can go back to Avid.

2. Even better than above, Avid...

Re: Export as AAF observations

I totally agree with you. Making new files for every single edit is behavior that was built into digitranslator since day one. The weakness was pointed out during early beta days. FCP does the same...

Re: New Cedar DNS3000

Yeah, its pretty much what I was asking about too, even to the point of integrating the desktop control of DNS1000 into a 2000, or allow USB control of the DNS2000 hardware without having to run it...

Re: New Cedar DNS3000

Boy am I pissed! In October at the AES show they specifically told me they had NO plans to release a 96k model that worked with Pro Tools. I asked exactly that question and I was told definitely...

Re: New loudness meter TC LM5

I think TC's approach is slightly more consistent with what I hear than the LM100's. When it is specified in one of my deliverables, I'll really pay attention. Until then, though, no money from me....

Re: DVCProHD at 23.98 as OMF from FCP 6

The 23.976 OMF is detected by Pro Tools to be 24fps. That is an annoyance but does not cause any overwhelming trouble. Import it into Pro Tools (it may not show up in the proper timecode location),...

Re: DVCProHD at 23.98 as OMF from FCP 6

Well, I was actually trying to put positive reinforcement vibes into the cosmos, even while feeling sarcasm. It hasn't really gotten any better.

Re: DVCProHD at 23.98 as OMF from FCP 6

Yesterday I imported an OMF from a project cut at 23.976 on FCP. The editor assures me the 2 pop is at 59:58:00. Of course, as minister says, the OMF is stamped as 24fps. I was not able to get the...
