Not sure if i'm understanding correctly... But can't you just double your Master track (I use 2 5.1 Auxes as my master faders) and put the downmixer plug in on one of them.

and that makes perfect sense to me. The engineer has now changed his session to 32 bit float but keep all the audio from the 24Bit AAF at 24 Bit.

But if you have 24bit audio the run it through a plug its dithers it to 32Bit to go into the plug and on the way out to go back to 24bit?

what is the bit rate of the audio you usually get from elsewhere?



I have also herd this from a colleague. Less dithering = more headroom is what he was getting at. :confused:

Using PT 10HD

Is there reason to up convert 24Bit dial to 32 Bit if you know you are going to use heavy Audio suite Processing i.e. Noise reduction? I believe audio suite plugs are 32 Bit in PT 10...

I had no idea you could do this. when you say select an "offline file" do you mean from the desktop or drive. Or do you mean from within the pro tools browser window. Then drag it into canadates...

I hear ya,, When I train a dial editor I have him boost the dial overall with a lower threshold on a limiter L3. So he can hear clips and pops to draw them out as well as make sure the air will...

Do you prefer turning up low to mid level Dialogue (recorded with a lav or boom) using a compressor or simple clip gain in PT?

for example turning up 10db to 15db+ you know the bad lavs people...

Great is that 83spl at the mixing position on the spl meter?

And set up a K meter (Vsonics Meters plugs) in pro tools where 0 on the meter is 83spl.

Any other meter suggestions?

I understand both sides.. Some don't like compression and limiting because its almost as if they are scared of the words "Compressor" and "Limiter". And you can really bugger the audio up with too...
