Re: Protools could be called "CrashTools"

FWIW, I have been running Pro Tools Ultimate on an Asus Sabertooth X79 system for a full year without a single crash. I have trashed prefs(both the manual way and with guitardom's Trasher utility)...

Re: About to take the leap. Your thoughts?

AFAIK, both are not supported, but both still work with even the very latest PT(running a 003rack on Windows 10 with PT2019.12 here). In Nashville, you probably will need more inputs so plan to add...

Re: How do you use an analog mixer with Protools?

Using the correct tool for the job is always a good idea, and the Yamaha isn't the correct tool. Using a mixer that allows for easy multi-tracking would seem to make more sense. Behringer...

Re: System Usage Disk Cache crazy

I'd bump that to 5 or 6GB and see what happens. If it gets better, then I'd look at doubling the RAM(but I would match what you have exactly. Same brand, part number and size):o

Re: How do you use an analog mixer with Protools?

This is only my opinion(been in this game for 30+ years) and the reason is based on the fact that you asked the question(IMHO, not knowing how or why, is a really good reason to NOT do it). Please...

Re: External SSD

Hmmm, does the external SSD also have a USB connection? If so, could that be limiting speed? The NVME is likely to outperform any other connection, and recording to a second internal SSD would be my...

Re: Is it possible on Windows 10? multiple interfaces

Valid points^^^ Lightpipe into 002/003 has always been limited to 44.1 and 48K(48K is my setting for 99% of my work as well). As for the sample offset, unless you track the same instrument(as above)...

Re: Pcie disappears

Hmmm, seems odd, but..... I know Windows users usually need to set Windows to NOT use the PT interface as the "default playback device". It may be worth trying this on your Mac to see what happens:o

Re: Delay plugin(?) playing when opening template

Hmmm, never had that happen here. 2 options come to mind:
#1-get the free Sound Radix plugin, Mute-o-Matic and insert after each delay plugin and set to mute on stop(this plugin can be configured to...

Re: Autotune slow down Sessions

Instead of track freeze, use track commit. Or better yet, put AutoTune in the first insert slot, and then right-click on the plugin and choose "Commit up to this insert".

Re: Please recommend a cheap controller.

Most devices handle stereo panning by using the SHIFT button. From your replies to other suggestions, the Artist Mix is probably your best choice. Qcon makes some HUI units that are worth a look...

Re: Is it possible on Windows 10? multiple interfaces

Indeed. The Behringer ADA8200(the red version) uses the newer Midas-designed preamps from the X32 and is easily as good sounding as the 002/003(probably much better than 002). There are several other...

Re: SSD5 Cymbal room bleed?

I found similar in Superior Drummer and have adjusted bleed to lower the snare in the overheads. I also rarely(if ever) use the ambiance tracks at all and will create my own with one of a few room...

Re: Sennheiser 421 Tom Mic Question

Not at all(to me). I like the D6 better than the others you mention. It all comes down to how you balance the top/bottom in a mix. If I need less "fatness", the Miktek PM10 is a solid alternative, or...

Re: I bought m oowered 7.4 with free upgrade to ver 8. HOW DO I UPGRADE

You dragged up an 11 year old post about 13 year old software, so you have some things to think about:
1-what OS do you use now?(software that old is not likely to run on any recent computer)...

Re: 6-core (3.33GHz) or 2 quad-core (2.4GHz) Westmere

I would go for the most speed, over the most cores. I would also recommend moving up to a current version of PT as 8(and 9, 10) is a 32 bit program, which is a performance killer. Of course, moving...

Re: Windows Mbox Pro not recognized

Don't know if this will help, but its worth a try if you haven't already: On windows machines, its a good idea to open Sound Properties and set the Default Playback Device to the on-board sound card....

Re: audio to midi in pro tools 12.5

Melodyne is my choice as well. A while back, I needed an upright bass on a song. As I don't have one(and probably would suck at playing one:p), I played the part on a MusicMan Stingray, ran it thru...

Speaking of the SM81; I have a friend that had a tall steel cabinet sitting about 12-15' away from his drums. He would lay an SM81 on a chunk of foam, inside the cabinet with the doors closed and...

Re: Preferred Compressor for Vocals

BF76 into SMACK! is my usual(SMACK! is Avid's version of the LA-2A). In truth, I could likely be content with almost any pair of comps, as long as its not the stock Digirack offerings(yes, I realize...
