Re: AAF/OMF Issues

You could ask the folks at AATranslator to run a test for you. That app is often handy with gnarled up exports. https://www.aatranslator.com.au/

Re: Questions about how to match multitrack audio with edited video

Logic is not a good way to solve this unless you were wanting to buy it for other reasons. The easiest way to conform what you've done is via the first answer you got--do your new video, put it in a...

Re: Avid's Response to the NEW Mac Pro

I guess there may be some deals on used souped up cheesegrater macs soon. But I suspect that Apple will move the OS onward to cripple them soon. New Macs, esp any that can take audio cards, have...

Re: Mac Mini 2018 for Pro Tools...?

Does this Mini not have the firmware bug I read about that was an issue for digital audio? I'm 3 minis down the road and like them very much, particularly their small footprint and comparitively...

Re: Selected tracks as new aaf/omf export issue

Does DT work with current PT versions? My vanilla PT will export an OMF/AAF, so maybe there is something in your project that PT doesn't want to export? Otherwise, AATranslator might help.

Re: What was the name of that apparently magical dialogue plugin?

The analogy to 800-grit sandpaper is right--it is a very nice tweak/secret sauce. You will make trouble for yourself if you try to use it as a regular heavy-lift de-esser....

Re: AAF from Premiere works! (sorta)

I hope you are correct and Adobe fixes their various export issues--so far they have been pretty slow to do this: PP is not a new app and these are not new problems. They continue to develop PP, and...

Re: AAF from Premiere works! (sorta)

I am glad that those tests didn't make for problematic exports. Can I assume that those tests were relatively short projects? We've all had the problems we've had, so there are real issues here...

Re: AAF from Premiere works! (sorta)

I've had it make trouble re position of clips coming after it, ditto with any clip that the NLE is doing any non-realtime effect to...

Re: AAF from Premiere works! (sorta)

And do they have any sort of playback speed processed running, like slowmo clips etc, or are using any Audiosuite etc plugins on the audio?

Re: AAF from Premiere works! (sorta)

Non-48k AIFF or wav audio clips? Are they doing clip fades or fades using keyframes?

Re: export list of music clips for cuesheet

Couldn't you start by having a session that was only the music clips, then exporting as text?

Re: Short film mixed in stereo: problematic in theaters?

With the advent of DCP theatres (etc) are even more reluctant to changes settings on a Dolby box to accommodate LtRt or LoRo. If you think your show will play in any sort of real movie theatre...

Re: Can Protools auto-match&sync audio and video with matching TC?

You need X2Pro, and the resulting export is still a dog's breakfast. FCPX is not a tool for use on jobs where exchange with other depts (esp sound) is required. If you can finish within FCPX, then...

Re: Can Protools auto-match&sync audio and video with matching TC?

Another reason to never ever use FCPX on anything more than a tiny simple video. Not a team player.

Re: Source Elements Live: Limitations?

You are doing God's work. A 1- license solution that requires no special hardware (esp a PT rig) on the client end is the only solution I can use. Do let us know how this comes out.

Re: LKFS QC hits with different levels even though True Peak is the same?

Refusal to discuss the issue (by the QC house) is a little suspicious. It kind of says "we never make mistakes, our gear is always perfect, you must be the problem". As we know, that is often not...

Re: PT on a MAC for 25 years, thinking of Jumping to PC

I'm still working on why Apple even cares about making a badass no-screen workstation style computer anymore. Like I said, I hope they do. Not holding my breath. The last time they took a REALLY...

Re: PT on a MAC for 25 years, thinking of Jumping to PC

Apple is "supposed to be ...." I have learned not to count on Apple for anything work-related anymore. I work @ Apple fairly often, and their inhouse editors etc etc are all on those big iMacs now...

Re: PT on a MAC for 25 years, thinking of Jumping to PC

I vote "both". If you need mac only apps etc (Conformalizer is a mission-critical thing for a lot of sound cutters, and so on) keep a Mac for that--there a lots and lots of them around used, maybe...

Re: New -27 LKFS Spec

I recall that too, before the universal -24 thing came along. It's fine with me if everyone wants to go back to -27, but it puts us pretty far out of whack with R128.

Re: New -27 LKFS Spec

This actually makes sense, and Silicon Valley hubris would lead them to believe that they can break things at will, esp if it makes them money. I don't care whether the standard is -24 or -23 or -27...
