If you just want to automate the volume before it hits compression for example you could automate the trim plugin.

In PT 8.01cs1 I am getting this message under the Elastic Menu options. Is there really an EA plugin that needs installing? I can't find it anywhere. Perhaps something went wrong with the install...

Yes PT 8.0.3 is definitely not working with Logic. I think though the OP's versions should work but he may have some sync settings wrong.
