Re: Drum machine style sequencing

Geist cannot send midi out to the input of SD2 (in ProTools). So you can't program midi in Geist and use sounds from SD2. It's a limitation of the RTAS plug-in spec. You CAN do this in a VST host....

Re: WHY MUST I BUY EXTRA SOFTWARE TO RUN VI's

Good idea... I'd have to experiment to see if it'd work.

Because it's directly related. It fits the thread title exactly. It's extra software...that I must buy...to run VIs. No? But I'm...

Re: WHY MUST I BUY EXTRA SOFTWARE TO RUN VI's

OK, I copied this from a site called "PTnewbies"; here's the link:

http://ptnewbie.com/blog/2008/03/12/how-to-rewire-reason-into-pro-tools/

And here's the relevant quote:

Re: WHY MUST I BUY EXTRA SOFTWARE TO RUN VI's

Another limitation of RTAS, that I didn't see explicitly mentioned in this thread, is that it won't support carrying midi information between plug-ins, or to rewired applications. (Please correct me...

Re: "Preview To" functionality like on Roland VS workstations?

...and then you'd need a command that played only the Pre-roll section. Does that exist?

The post-roll, "play from" function is pretty much taken care of by the default playhead behavior of...

Re: Macbook Pro w/ two external screens

Thanks for the info!

The Matrox unit sounds good. I can deal with the centered alerts thing. But it looks like I'd need adaptors. My Samsung 2443s have DVI and VGA inputs.

So, I could get the...

Macbook Pro w/ two external screens

Macbook Pro w/ two external screens... is it possible?

Last time I tried to figure this out it seemed like it couldn't be done.

I have two 24" Samsungs that I'd love to be able to run off an...

Re: New MacBook pros! Quad core! Thunderbolt!

Well...that sort of throws the whole discussion out the window - though I'm not surprised to hear it. We're investing a lot in the "reality'' of Geekbench scoring here.

I'd be curious to hear...

Re: New MacBook pros! Quad core! Thunderbolt!

And how about the MacBook Pro 2.3 Quad? -any Geekbench points for that one?

The increment between 2.2. and 2.3 seems so small - and they're charging $250. for it! And it's the same processor,...

Re: Pro Tools 9 - Turn off input Monitoring ?

Apologies if this is obvious, but here's the workaround:

Check the preference for "separate record and play faders"

Go to each channel, hit the record button, the fader turns red, (it is now...

Re: Manually compensating a virtual instrument

Good idea, but still problematic when you're composing rhythm track stuff. If the hits you're playing in by hand are 6ms late, or worse, 6ms later than than the previously laid down drum which was...

Re: Manually compensating a virtual instrument

No, I haven't upgraded...for me, PT9 means a new OS, and therefore a bunch of other enforced changes...and I'm not ready to go there yet.

I know PT9's delay compensation would solve the problem....

manually compensating a virtual instrument

I'm running Fxpansion's Geist, a virtual drum module, and I've noticed that it runs behind the grid a couple milliseconds. At 44k, with 512 buffer, Geist runs approximately 6ms late. I determined...

Re: Xpand... all the sounds have delay on them???

This was freaking me out today...on a patch named "Square PWM lead".

(I'm using xPand2 in PT 8)

There's nothing I could find in the creative collection manual that addresses this, but, there...

Spkguitar, thanks for the reply.

I did not know about denormalization or the G33. The G33 is a bummer...I thought I built a fully compatible computer. I believe the VIA firewire is the onboard...

CPU overload, Sandra report...

Hey all... I'm trying to track down this intermittent problem. The audio playback breaks up. I think it's purely an RTAS overload, but I'm not sure. The few times it's happened I've had to keep...

Re: Need help with BOOM!!

The simplest thing is to have Boom as a plug-in on an instrument track, then play midi notes on the instrument track and that will play Boom. If you look in the documentation, there is a manual for...

Re: Why Reaper ? Why not Cubase ?

I use Cubase 4. It's a good alternative. It's a full featured DAW.

Reasons it might not be so popular here:

1. It has a bit of a history of being a "kiddy" DAW...apparently it's been cracked a...

Re: D-Verb is GOOD...Admit it!

I found one setting on D-verb that I really like: Small room, about 800ms length, and 35 ms predelay. It sounds good on vocals, and I still use it a lot while working and in rough mixes.

Now that...

Re: Is it worth it to get a MPC 5000 when you already have Protools

1. You could use the pads on your MPC-2000 to control the sounds in a software drum module like Native Instruments Battery....or FXpansion's GURU-which is a...

Re: How do you get the view to follow the cursor, before you hit play?

Hmm. On both scroll settings, "page", and "after playback" I get the same result:

If the cursor and the edit window view are centered at, say, bar nine (9:1:000), and I tap the FF key—the...

How do you get the view to follow the cursor, before you hit play?

...or get the view to step a bar at a time. (This may be stupidly simple and somehow I can figure it out):

I have a single audio track I'm looking at. I want to see where the bar line crosses the...
