Try plugging into a USB hub instead of directly to your Mac. I found this idea on the other big thread regarding the problem and it worked for me.

You are wrong about not being able to run PTLE6 on a G3. I currently run PTLE6.2.3 on a G3 500MHz w/ 680MB RAM with no problems. I use 3 separate FW drives to record audio.

I don't know where you got that info from but I am able to run 6.1.2 on my B+W G3 w/ 500Mhz and 620MB RAM. I have removed the Cheetah 10K drive from the setup and now just run with 2 internal drives...
