Thank you! I don't mind reformatting the drive but I didn't want to do it and then just be faced with the same problem. The previous drive must have been formatted differently.

Is it possible you have bad memory? This could certainly be the cause of crashes with no apparent software cause. I have had this issue with PCs in the past.

For the record, I was able to download fine using normal Safari downloader, and skipping the Digidesign one altogether. Now I am on to PT8 (and other problems...)
