2 thoughts...

1. You're probably getting a lot more low freq when you finger-pick to when you flat pick. Could be the culprit - causing a compressor or limiter to really kick in...or something?

I've been using it mostly for hardware emulation (as well as reverb) - channel (for drums) and guitar cab. I think it adds some nice colour and 3-dimensionality to the sound.
