check start > control panel > system > advanced > performance settings > advanced
set both circles to the RIGHT side
if the paging file is > 1024MB (it's usually 1.5 x installed...

make sure you've installed a version of Pro Tools LE with that is compatible with your version of Mac OS.
10.2.8 needs PTLE 6.1.2 or lower
10.3.x needs PTLE 6.2 or higher

Setups - preferences - operation,
where it says Use All Available Space, choose Limit to... and enter 15 minutes or so.

you can use panner automation for the audio track you want to edit... either draw it in or record it during playback. This gives you much more control than automatic pan! way cool..
