Re: Increase in PT performance going from 32GB RAM to 64?

Oh sure, and I would stuff storage inside just to avoid extra external connections.

I would pay attention to any trash cans that have the smaller 256GB? SSDs that are only 2 x PCIe 2 lanes not 4 x...

Re: AVID PRE + HD Native

If you want to keep using the 192 Digital and have the Digilink capacity then just pick up another 192 analog they are cheap and easier than messing around with extra ADAT boxes etc. If you don't...

Re: Increase in PT performance going from 32GB RAM to 64?

Non-boot support has been there for a while. Lots of resources online about NVMe support on cheesegraters can help you.

But given 2019.5 and improved NVMe support on Mojave... I would be heading...

Ugh yes I was trying to edit that in real time I mean to say 2. Also could not remember the x2 and x4 lane storage size break point. But that is findable online. Sorry crappy internet connection....

Re: Increase in PT performance going from 32GB RAM to 64?

Thanks Eric, Sorry for the confusion I thought you had a cheesegrater. Then not relevant to, as you already have a PCIe NVMe boot drive. But in terms of thinking about possible upgrades... if you...

Re: Increase in PT performance going from 32GB RAM to 64?

Well that is formatting the drive, which still won’t boot. Somebody had to upgrade the boot ROM image at some time

The 140.0.0.0.0 boot rom images installed by Mohave gets you native NVMe boot,...

Re: Increase in PT performance going from 32GB RAM to 64?

High Sierra NVMe boot installs I am aware of required more hacking/messing around to get to work. Mojave it’s just there.

If you have simple install steps post a link.

Re: Increase in PT performance going from 32GB RAM to 64?

Is this going to keep going on every time I post stuff on this thread? I’m usually the guy right, who has no clue about storage stuff? Can you just maybe Google stuff before trying to correct me?

Re: Increase in PT performance going from 32GB RAM to 64?

Well Apple has tried to rain on that parade by saying no support for macOS Catalina. But who knows what might happen, or what people can hack to get running.

Re: Increase in PT performance going from 32GB RAM to 64?

Yes it will work or I would not have mentioned it. NVMe boot support requires Mojave and the Mojave included Boot ROM upgrade. No other hacks required anymore to get that to work.

Re: Increase in PT performance going from 32GB RAM to 64?

Unlikely to make any difference.... and modern OSes are a little complex to understand how their memory systems work.... like if you add more memory they may show they are using it... but often its...

Re: Increase in PT performance going from 32GB RAM to 64?

If you already have your disk cache configured large enough to fully cache your sessions and are not seeing issues when running VIs and not getting other errors it is not likely to make any...

One great way to have...
