your assuming alot, without testing out this mbox on another machine
to make sure you isolate this problem to your own machine.

if it works 100% on another machine, then you start all the tweaks...

I had a similar problem.

I ended up switching the advanced memory options to BACKGROUND and SYSTEM CACHE
instead of PROGRAMS.

And then I increased my Virtual Memory to 1024

The first thing you should do, is try this mbox on another machine.
Install it quickly, and test it out, then remove it.

OPTIMIZING YOUR MEMORY ON Xp

I installed 6.1.1 and now use REASON 2.0 (need to get 2.5 upgrade)
and had to tweak my memory settings, I ended up going with:

ControlPanel / System Icon / Advanced tab / Performance Settings...
