Re: Pro Tools Owners Avid Explores Sale

Which company would be a suitable buyer?

Can’t think of one at the moment.

Re: How often does your Pro Tools crash on your Mac hardware?

Assuming your hardware is in good shape, the number one reason for PT crashes is plugins that are not up to date or that are badly programmed.

I used to have an enormous amount of plugins...

Re: Avid will announce new DSP product(s) next week!

Celemony today released Melodyne 5.1.

In the what's new info you can find the following sentence: "ARA improvements: The interaction with ARA DAWs has been optimized in various ways – partly to...

Re: Avid will announce new DSP product(s) next week!

I think Avid will release an ‘attractively’ priced Thunderbolt 3 DSP acceleration box.

This in the hope that plugin developers will start porting over their plugins to the AAX DSP format also...

Re: Avid will announce new DSP product(s) next week!

Those hexagon shapes are probably a hint and not just some fancy graphics. On the other hand they could very well be just that. Let the speculations commence.

Re: Avid will announce new DSP product(s) next week!

Hmm, can’t remember a DSP solution being on the ideascale chart.
Let’s wait and see.

Re: Pro Tools 2020.1

Folder tracks look great. I was rather hoping for some other features as well like ARA support. But I can imagine the way that Avid are implementing Routing on folder tracks, where the folder allows...

Re: Pro Tools 2020.1

Well, answering my own post :D

Greg Chin chimed in (rhyming here) for a sneak peek at the NAMM show and said “... we’ll be showing a brand new Pro Tools”. So it’s happening.

Hopefully some...

Re: Pro Tools 2020.1

So what about NAMM and the possibility of PT 2020.1 ??

Was 2019.12 a quick prerelease to ease the pain for the latest Macbook Pro 16” and new Mac Pro buyers and will we see the real feature...

Re: Pro tools 2019 !

I still believe that Avid were working (and still are ofcourse) on the requests we made on Ideascale. But I think they just ran into serious issues implementing them with the current/old Playback...

Re: Pro tools 2019 !

I think Avid just had to rewrite the Playback Engine first to make other great features possible later this year. Rewriting the engine must have been a big task so they didn’t have any resources to...

Re: In what area is Pro Tools REALLY lacking??

Those are some very good points actually. When I experience an interruption or lag in the flow I always wish Avid would improve that. I actually should write that stuff down during production. There...

In what area is Pro Tools REALLY lacking??

I keep reading on the line that Pro Tools is ‘miles behind’ competitor daws. But when I look back at the (now discontinued) ideascale list there’s not that many fundamental and highly voted for...

Is this still a bug?

I still have the exact same problem in Pro Tools HD 12.7.1

Re: Pro Tools on the new Mac Pro vs old 2007 Mac Pro

You're welcome!

That CTO is exactly the system that I bought and which I feel is the only system for PT users that makes sense price/performance wise. I'd love to have an 8 or 12-core CPU (as...

Re: Pro Tools on the new Mac Pro vs old 2007 Mac Pro

Ah, yeah that's what I thought. Let's hope Avid can squeeze more power out of the new Mac Pro. Thanks for checking it!

Re: Pro Tools on the new Mac Pro vs old 2007 Mac Pro

The quad core Mac Pro would probably only offer a minor amount of power over the i7 iMac. And that performance would most likely come from the PCIe storage and its graphics cards (which are not used...

Re: Pro Tools on the new Mac Pro vs old 2007 Mac Pro

Yep, it's a pretty powerful machine. Looking at the number of plug-ins in the session of the movie I'd say it's a session in either 44.1 or 48 kHz. My tests were done in 96kHz. Plus I did some...

Re: Pro Tools on the new Mac Pro vs old 2007 Mac Pro

Yes indeed, the results seem close, although looking at the Geekbench Mac Benchmarks there should be about 6000 points difference between the best MBP and nMP 6-core. Mine scored 20671 on the...

Re: Pro Tools on the new Mac Pro vs old 2007 Mac Pro

Thanks for the compliments, glad you liked the article.

The Pro Tools HD I'm referring to is Pro Tools HD Native, which is also processing its plug-ins natively. So my tests count for both Pro...

Re: Pro Tools on the new Mac Pro vs old 2007 Mac Pro

Oh, by the way. The other thing that is strange is that Pro Tools is saying it's only using 94 voices while there are definitely 16 tracks of 5.1 surround in use.

Have no explanation for that and...

Re: Pro Tools on the new Mac Pro vs old 2007 Mac Pro

Okay, I just had a spare 15 minutes to do your test but in my case with Revibe II and Avid's Channel Strip.

One thing that struck me, and which I also noticed during the other tests, is that at...

Re: Pro Tools on the new Mac Pro vs old 2007 Mac Pro

The Waves SSL 400 bundle is funny enough the only bundle I own from Waves.
But besides the Slate plug-ins they are the only plug-ins I haven't got running in 64-bit yet. I'd like to run this test...
