Re: New Samsung EVO 860 question

Yeah, if you're ever going to use it on an older OS than High Sierra, I would recommend HFS+, otherwise if it's only being used in high Sierra and/or Mojave you can use APFS. TRIM support only...

Re: Something like Soundly

Looks interesting, I like some of the features, but it's probably not realistic in a lot of situations. There are some studios around town that don't even allow the computers on the internet for...

Re: Has anyone used the new 12.8 Atmos Features Yet?

Yeah, I downloaded the 30 day trial and used it with PT12.80 and it works great. It takes a little bit of a setup, but once you have a template it's easy to incorporate into you work.

Just tried the trial, no latency, but it is native so you will run into buffer latency on HDX systems. Looking good so far, but haven't listened to anything.

Nice! Need a good dither for post. This should be built into Pro Tools and we shouldn't have to think about when/where we need dither…

Re: Waves AAX Error

I take offense to the suggestion that I am not using a legitimate copy of the software. I have owned the Waves Platinum bundle for 10+ years, and just recently upgraded to v9 Diamond bundle. It just...

Re: Waves AAX Error

None of this worked for me. Uninstalled and deleted everything twice, and I still have issues loading the Waves plugins in Pro Tools (not valid 64-bit AAX plugin, and then crashing when loading Pro...

Re: Reports of Samsung 850 Pro Firmware update issues

As far as I know, you can't update the firmware on a startup drive you are running on, so I can't see it happening automatically. Being on a Mac, it's very difficult do any firmware upgrades in the...

Re: Pro Tools 11 Need new conform software

It does work with PT11, I've used it, and it has been updated more recently even though the website doesn't reflect that (software updated from the app itself). The developer is actually pretty good...

Re: Pro Tools 11 Need new conform software

The best way I've found for re-conforming mixes is Reconformer:

Re: PT 11.1.3 - Bizarre plug-in behavior

I’ve seen it as well with DMG Audio Equality and Equilibrium. Even writing automation with the setting it can still happen, but for me it typically happens with the high/low pass filters. Equick does...

Re: Dolby Atmos andor Aurora 3D in a small theater

That's right, they are… but then again, I didn't spend any of my money on them, so what do I care. Don't trust my word for it, talk to anyone who has been in our room and heard it for themselves,...

Re: Dolby Atmos andor Aurora 3D in a small theater

Hah, pretty funny! We're actually finding quite the opposite with the Meyers! They translate really well, we've done screenings at various theaters including The Chinese Theater in Hollywood, and a...

Re: Dolby Atmos andor Aurora 3D in a small theater

It's hard to say. A room that size might be OK for Auro-3D (depending on what your'e doing), certainly wouldn't need as many speakers as we have. QSC are nice, but we use Meyer here with the QSC Qsys...

Re: Love DMG Audio EQuick

Equality is somewhat simpler, and limited. 9 Bands only, with two High Pass filters, One Low Pass Filter and High/Low shelfs that can be switched to bells, and 4 bells that can be switched to...

Re: When clipping sounds better than limiting

Well, it varies, but generally C -3db, Surrounds down -3 to -6, Lfe to taste (or none), I usually like it around 0 depending on the monitoring setup and the content of the Lfe. Hope this helps.

Re: When clipping sounds better than limiting

Don't forget fold down rules when going from 5.1/7.1 to stereo. But yeah I've definitely seen +10db overs when folding down a 5.1/7.1 to an LtRt, it's really not that uncommon in action and horror...

Re: FabFilter's comment on AAX DSP

Actually, Flux: Elixir is a very good example of an excellent DSP limiter that fits on one chip, even as a 7.1 instance.

Re: FabFilter's comment on AAX DSP

I have both the Sonnox Limiter and Flux: Elixir. They both sound great, but when pushed (10db of gain reduction for instance) they tend to suck the life out of the sound more than FabFilter does, at...

Re: FabFilter's comment on AAX DSP

I have to disagree with some, as I find the FabFilter plugins sound better than most that were listed here and their UI's are amazing. That being said, I can use most of them as native on disk tracks...
