I'm going to try a PCMCIA USB card here in a couple days and I'll let you know how it goes. If it works out, then I'll probably send my powerbook back for repair and tell them something is wrong...

Yes, I have run the firmware update also, forgot to include that. Changed the cable to no avail.

As far as troubleshooting, I've formatted, given ProTools a clean slate, changed power settings to optimal, tried the OSX 10.4 at a variety of stages of updates, turned off...
