SC48 service nearby?

Hi all. I have a SC48 that's started to crash (again). Pretty sure it's an intermittent cable/connection somewhere as it started crashing a few years ago and seemed to be cured for a while after...

Re: SC48 - Help with Noisy Input

I asked about this several years ago where I have a "hissy" input on one of my SC48 inputs. I was told that it was bad resistors on the input. They can be replaced with he proper surface mount...

Re: SC48 crashing into Backup mode

There was never a precursory message when the crashes happened. If I happened to have my hand on the mouse and was trying use the UI, it would become non-responsive, then kick into backup. Meters...

Re: SC48 crashing into Backup mode

Just wanted to follow up. After reseating just about everything I could get my hands on short of completely disassembling the DSP board sandwich, I haven't had any further crashes. :-)

Re: SC48 crashing into Backup mode

Well, the clock hasn't lost time. So the battery is probably ok. But I'll replace it when I dig into it.

SC48 crashing into Backup mode

Hi guys. I have a SC48 probably 6 years old that's been relatively flawless. Lately it started crashing into backup mode, usually after a cold boot after it's been stored. Once it's recovered from 1...

Re: SC48 Monitors

Any reason you can't upgrade? Well worth it in my opinion.

Re: SC48 RAM Slot Failure

Avid usually provides an "advanced exchange" option where you can have them advance ship you the new part and then you send back the bad one. You need to call support and give them a credit card. The...

Noisy mic pre when unterminated

On my SC48, channel 16 has a ton of white noise on it when it's unterminated. None of the other channels do though. If I have the trim up half way with the pad off, the input is reading -40dB of...

Re: SC48 and Beer

Somebody must have hated Skid Row more than I do to toss that beer at the board.

Re: AVID SC48 I/O configuration

Yeah, if the cards were on a simple bus slot connection, it would be easy to pop them in and out. But since they use ribbon cables, you have to do partial disassembly to make changes - definitely...

XP support going bye bye, new embedded OS in the works for Venue?

Looks like Microsoft is dropping all XP support which means no more patches for vulnerabilities. Any plans for an embedded Win 7 OS update for Venue?

Re: Mbox mini 3

Correct, you don't need phantom power for an SM57. That said, it shouldn't make any difference if phantom is on or off unless your mic cable is wired incorrectly. Which could also cause other...

Re: sc48 power consumption (UPS vs conditioner)

Agreed. In the event of a full power outage, you want the UPS to have enough juice to give you a few minutes to wait for power to come back online. After that, it's time to shut down the system. I'd...

Re: S3L DA Converter Quality

Unless you're doing true ABX blind testing, listening tests are nearly useless for any objective analysis. It's been proven time and time again. The null testing will be your best bet. Makes sure the...

Re: What all does everyone use "Pad" on?

I would say that's true for all the AI16 XLR inputs. They are mic inputs that can accept line level inputs as needed using the pad. The 1/4 inputs like the ones on the IO16 and the AES inputs are...

Re: AES on SC48

I've been using AES out of my SC48 into an XTA DP448 for a while now. The elimination of any additional D/A to A/D steps is almost always a good thing. I give it a thumbs up.

Re: S3L power requirement specs?

So for a setup with two stage boxes, you're looking at 260W which is a whopping 2.2 amps of draw at 120V or 1.1 amps at 240V. You might be able to power that setup with a generator attached to a...
