Re: Files under iCloud a bad idea?

Ok thanks. And external drive in all situations or only really needed when tracking or mixing lots of tracks? I.e. for me just tracking one or two at a time (or mixing just a few), no big deal to...

Files under iCloud a bad idea?

Hi,

While I believe it is still best practice to track to an external drive, I'm still small-time and just dipping my toe in the water of Pro Tools and all things recording (it is though, right?)....

External FireWire drive, or maybe SSD via ExpressCard/34?

I plan to buy a new MacBook Pro and Logic Studio (Logic Pro 8) for tracking/mixing on the go (i.e. studio in my backpack).

While the system drive will be 320GB/7200RPM I'm told to NEVER work with...

Excited about/planning to get an SSD drive?

SSD (Solid-State Drives) have been coming on lately, as evidenced by the 64GB SSD option in the new MacBook Air (though pricey). Everyone was excited about Samsung claiming it would have a 128GB SSD...

Considering leaving Pro Tools for Logic

I've been doing a ton of reading on the whole Pro Tools vs Logic debate. It seems that since Apple took over Logic and came out with version 8, it's a serious alternative to Pro Tools.

The one...

Rack-mountable external hard drive?

I'm looking to buy a rack-mountable external hard drive. I have a LaCie 500GB and it's great, but I would really like one that just mounts in my rack. Any recommendations?

Thanks for any info,...

Pro Tools HD possible on a laptop?

Stupid question, I'm sure... but is it possible to buy Pro Tools HD and somehow run on a laptop?

I'm guessing that since it comes with cards, those cards have to go in slots in a desktop PC.

So...

Does order of plug-ins matter?

Does the order of plug-ins matter? If EQ is the top one and compression right below it, does that mean the signal gets EQ first and then compression?

Thanks,
Ron

Future of Pro Tools HD host based?

I've seen posts about how Logic Pro 8 is now competition for Pro Tools. Is that just LE or HD too?

I don't think Logic has any hardware cards that come with it, so does that mean

1) that it's...

Re: 8-channel preamp into Digi 002 via FireWire?

Great advice, thanks. So, why are there 2 FW ports on a Digi003? What would you ever use the second one for?

Re: 8-channel preamp into Digi 002 via FireWire?

Thanks! So, I need to make sure my 8-channel tube pre-amp has an ADAT out.

Is it the same on the Digi003, or are there more FW ports on it for just this sort of thing?

Thanks again,
Ron

8-channel preamp into Digi 002 via FireWire?

So, how does it work? I plug my 8 drum mics into the pre-amp and then the preamp into the Digi via a FireWire cable? If...
